NBA CUP 2024
So we are leading the group 3-0 and play Knicks in the last group game. If we win we are first and advance to the quarterfinals.
If we lose we will be second with point differential of +60, minus the knicks defeat. The other second placed teams are Boston with point differential of 23 and whoever lose Bucks-Pistons game - Bucks are +29 and Pistons +28. So in order to qualify we need not to lose against Knicks with more than 31 points. I hope im not jinxing anything, but our chances for 1/4 final are pretty good.
And btw Boston took their game against Chicago pretty seriously - leading with 6 pts and a second left they took a time out in order to get one more 3pt shot.

After people thinking we had it in the bag last year, anything could happen. But they control their destiny in terms of not playing like complete ass against the Knicks.

Re: NBA CUP 2024
I love the NBA Cup. Hawks are in, Magic, Bucks, Pistons, Knicks, Celtics are fighting to get in.
Pistons vs Bucks and Knicks vs Magic to win their groups, then the losers vs the Celtics on point differential. Epic.
If we win the Celtics are likely the wildcard and we'd face them in Orlando. THAT will be an epic game.

The Magic are virtually in for the final 4 in the East.
Worst case scenario the Bucks or Piston loses by only 1 pt, then the Magic can't lose to NY by ~30 pts.
No chance they are losing by more than 30 pts.

That isn't a worst case scenario. It would eliminate Boston. Realistically the Magic aren't getting blown out, so we should be rooting for that game to be close.

IF we're ready to be a serious team, we duck no one...NYK in NY on a nationally televised matinee tomorrow is a big test and a great opportunity to send a message to the league. Anyone anywhere...let's go!
Beating up on CHA, WAS & BRK doesn't prove very much...but they look good.

There is a cup MVP. If F-Wagner has another 30 point gem in a win; he's gotta be the favorite. Right?

Nah. It's tournament, so winner of a tournament will have best player crowned "coup MVP". What a hell they would base "regular season cup MVP" at ? 4 games?

This is most soccer like- nba experience ever, only fanbases of teams that actually participate show any interest in cup. I bet most people don't even know who won last year ( cup nor mvp

but those games are also regular season games, only the final doesnt count.
For a young team the competitiveness bonus of the cup is great.

I also think there are implications for power rankings. The Cavs losing to the Celtics and Hawks to me raised doubt about their contender status. Mitchell struggled in a critical game against the Hawks which reinforces that he isn't quite in the elite tier of #1 options on championship teams.byeganyo wrote:basketballRob wrote:I was kind of hoping they didn't make the tournament so they could rest

lol what?
Last year Kings, Lakers and Pacers dominated cup. Kings didn't even make it to playoffs, Lakers got their a*** handed to them in first round and Pelicans went as far as schedule allowed them to avoid Celtics.
It's just another regular season game played on ugly painted court. You can extract any 5 games streach and proclaim somebody "cup champion" from any part of the season. Whole concept is silly. Real cup would have to be draw between 30 teams where you can end up playing vs other conference. This is fixed schedule streach of games in desparate attempt to give some life to tv ratings that are bombing every year more and more.
And some meaning to meaningless regular season. For crying out loud, ESPN front page title is "76ers just may need 33 wins". That's where we are at. Playin makes league interesting. But in same time devalues regular season even further. You just need to be 6th worst in group of 15.
