Every single possession that touches Rudy’s hands is an unknown journey. Fumbles every single time. Misses the initial post shot every single time. Turnovers on passes…it’s truly fascinating. You have to reward him but it’s absolutely with clinched teeth.

The way I deal with that is figure his turnovers into part of his shooting pct. Instead of a .600 shooter, he is .460 which is still acceptable considering we have to play him 43 mins this game (he is providing something). He is now a .750% FT which is very acceptable. Also, because he isn't getting the ball, he is more out of position. Some of those pass are also bailouts where he isn't in the right spot.

Not giving him excuses but as a whole, this team needs to work together and make each other better. Right now, sum of the whole is a lot worse than each individual add together.

Guys don’t want to pass when they don’t trust they will get the ball back. This leads to more pressure on yourself when you do get the ball which leads to bad things. Rudy gets so few touches without KAT, that he actually self sabotages. KAT was soul of the locker room and glue of the culture.

For the record, Gobert is averaging 1.9 APG this season, while the previous four years he was between 1.3-1.5.

And I don’t think low assist numbers are a bad thing, if you’re shooting FG 65%. Even if you’re passing out to a three point shooter, and you don’t turn the ball over on the pass, the guy needs to be shooting 43.3% from 3P to make it as effective a shot as Gobert’s shots at the rim.

I think our scorers need to understand that if they feed Gobert in good position, and with a pass he can handle, they have done their job - probably moreso than shooting themselves.

I also agree on Towns. I would sometimes get frustrated when he would pass up 15-footers that he regularly made, to try to feed Gobert. Sometimes it even felt like the wrong basketball play, because there was a chance for a bobble with that extra pass. However, I think it was critical for team chemistry, to help Gobert feel like a part of the team, and help him continue to sacrifice on defense every play.

Let me clarify

1. Rudy’s hands seem worse because he is more nervous. He is more nervous because the guys who actually pass to him consistently are either gone (Karl and Kyle,) a year older, (Mike, which matters when he plays less has already missed multiple games,) or less willing to pass (Ant.) When you don’t believe people will pass to you, the times they do have greater meaning and this can get in guys heads.

2. Rudy has had multiple possessions where he should kick out (especially off of offensive rebounds,) but instead takes the shot himself. This is an example of what happens when trust is broken. Teams that have trust 1-10 see the ball move freely. Teams that play your turn, my turn, and occasionally their turn, see what you are seeing this year. We lack the trust because ISO ball and hero ball are now endorsed by the HC with no threat of benching or true accountability for Ant and Randle to fear. I do wonder how much this changed culture is messing with DDV and Jaden on top of their existing anxiety and woe.

Let’s just hope no other teams watch our games. If they do, maybe they won’t trade for him.

I think the main point with Rudy is that he is not very agile, plus the fact that ANT and Randle have a tendency to throw grenade when they are out of personal options. Definitely not the best way to play...

One thing I don’t understand this year is bounce passing to Rudy. Rudy will always be better served by throwing it up to him. At the very least it should be head level, (though that has it’s own risks if he misses ) but throwing it low to Rudy just gives defenders a chance to strip him or interfere with him completing the catch. The best passes to Rudy enable either a fluid catch and jump or better yet jump to catch/slam/drop in.
