2ND Q: SPURS 58 KINGS 65

We won this Q 30-23 so better response, with both teams missing multiple bunnies, but something I can tout my finger on is off.

We're missing our core central spirit or gravity force or something. Playing distracted, uninspired, inconsistent ball.

Some weird never before seen line ups again is disrupting our rhythm, such as it is.

I think once again games like this is where missing Pop really stands out as a galvanizing and igniting and leading force to realign us.

Too many missed chances left on the court.

Getting absolutely decimated in the paint.

Over-relying on / resorting too much to the boring 3.

Chasing them on D.

We better figure out WWPS (what would Pop say) and then pretend he's here and do it.

Having KJ guard DD and contesting from the left hip on a righty shooter is... just one step shy of pointless.

Wemby had a much smaller defender in the left block and he passed out...

He has to learn how to pivot and face or make a post move...

4TH Q: SPURS 127 KINGS 125

Wemby was otherworldly with an efficient 34/14/11 and three blocks and a steal. Team high 37 minutes, so that's something to keep an eye on to trim up a bit (Pop, give Mitch a call about this one lol). Then again, Collins (0-0) and Bassey (0-2) each played only 6 minutes and Mamu was bizarrely a DNP so not sure we used our full team capability contributions. Have to find a better balance (and work to shore up better back up bigs).

So we essentially used an eight-man rotation. Loathed Keldon on DeRozan as defender. So just some matchup and rotation decisions that were off. Not sure what's going on with the various lineup puzzles but it's affecting chemistry. We made things more difficult ourselves by going slow and fast at the same time, like not everyone was on the same page, in synch.

Devin showed his quality and developed O game, leading the bench with 21 points on 8-12, 5-8 from 3. Excellent movement, vision, reading of plays developing, clutch shooting. He's such a threat cooking off the bench but there's only so long he won't be starting, so once Sochan returns it'll be interesting what we do with the first five.

And in a game which Castle struggled to score (3-12, 2-7 from 3) it was Dev's steady and heady play that triggered the comeback.

Julian made some great plays from making his bread and butter 3s (4-9) to hustling after possession-saving O boards, to chipping in blocks and steals and assists. I've crapped on him aplenty so full credit when he plays great and contributes so positively on both ends to the win. No drama and good hustle and shooting with a burgeoning game is awesome and all the more so from an undrafted player. He's making the most of his minutes.

Keldon was a bull driving and poet finishing. Really good shot profile and balance between drives and 3s, using more of his strengths better. The D is oof but we have to help him not get isolated on top scorers. He's doing better with not having the ball in his hands so much.

CP3 and Barnes were both clutch with the former also netting a double double. 13 and 10 including a trusty late game 3 to seal it is just the competitive juice we need.

Really hope Tre will be ok. That was a brutal hit.

I love that we have once again fought back, found a way to win, made clutch shots and FTs and stops and rebounds.

Don't love another slow start, the weirdo rotations, the unsure what we're running on O - is it fast or slow?, too horizontal, and over-reliance on the 3.

We got bested in just about every category from rebounds to PITP to second chance points to fast break points to points off TOs... Yet we shot over 50% overall and 50% from 3 to eke out the win, to win the last three Qs, so good momentum and come back.

You can tell we're gunning for wins now as we try to do it with volume on the statistical darling 3. But at some point we have to look at what a big fig leaf the 3 is, covering a lot of ugly aspects of our play. We have to bomb nearly half our shots at a scorching 50% to get by? No, that exposes some issues.

One is porous lazy D that had us chasing players, bleeding points at our rim, not boxing out and bleeding second chance points. Funda - **** - mentals. D-out. Don't know who we think we are with these unfocused unready starts thinking we can just switch gears and take first halves off.

Another is missed opportunities with missing Wemby down low, with **** 3s on fast breaks when we have players running to the rim, with a casual inconsistent hustle.

Forty-six of 82 FGAs were from 3! We're not doing well enough to create more shots from the full compliment of strengths on our team and resort / revert to 3s as the cure all. I don't like it as it makes us hunters of it rather creators which expands our collective game and it makes for shoot out games rather than locked in D games.

We were pressured by their D but we were far too left to right oriented than up and down. Thirty-two assists is terrific though 21 of them were from Wemby and CP3 combined so we may want to look at more gravity passing spots or at least more variability.

I'm happy we won, a win is a win, but we're not the full sum of our parts and levelling up means looking at what we can do better.
