It’s hilarious how this board never just praises talent. It’s always some qualifiers about how they haven’t won enough or what they aren’t. What about seeing the good in the world? Don’t you watch basketball to have fun and be entertained, not squinting like an art critic and leaving scathing reviews after every game?

He is not a trade asset. There is no earmarking him for another team.

Hornets are a small market team and have locked up a player chasing the NBA scoring title, currently sitting at #2. He's on a multiyear deal for like 20 million less than Curry & Lillard.

He's an asset to the Hornets, first and foremost.

If he can make his imprint atop the scoring ladder, it just helps the Hornets brand.

He needs to win, but the current team is longrange planning.

Hornets will have 6 first round picks available for trade at season's conclusion.

Those are the only assets Charlotte needs to build a team around LaMelo & Miller.

Bradley Beal won a couple of scoring titles while the Wizards lost.

He then got an albatross contract.

Did people think Beal was a great player impactful to winning when he was winning those scoring titles?

Wemby-SGA-Doncic-Tatum-Jokic-Giannis are all way more valuable.

Factoring durability, contract, and maturity, is he even a top 20 asset? He’s really not an efficient scorer…

You have to consider the players around each guy and their career trajectory. LaMelo stacks up against a lot and he has the length at the PG position to score on anyone.

LaMelo at 23: 5.4 BPM
Tatum at 23: 5.0 BPM
Shai at 23: 3.4 BPM
Luka at 23: 8.9 BPM
Jokic at 23: 9.1 BPM

There's not a team in the league, even the Hornets, even Hornets fans, that would take LaMelo over those listed players.

As far as ceiling and marketability goes, LaMelo is probably #2 or #3 on that list behind Luka. People just aren't seeing LaMelo's talent because of Charlotte basketball history. It's probably going to be something like Charlotte trades LaMelo to the Lakers just like they did with Kobe and then you see the superstar calls and stats.

There was a time when it was completely pointless to frame Beal as a trade candidate.

I rated him very highly before this season started but he always gets injured. I rate very highly Trae Young too. Those two are underrated on this board.
