Re: Life
Too much stress and anxiety lately, at times I have a low bucket tolerance for high stress, wisdom teeth out as an adult, dental visit, mohs surgery coming up after a positive diagnosis, trying to avoid getting sick before a trip to LA/Disney for my 8 year old and wife's best friend and kiddo on my 50th next week, and moving my 80something parents from their house to a local apartment after my dad basically as it turned out blew through all the related inheritances they received and two house sales proceeds due to gambling addictions between the mid nineties and around 2018 without any of us realizing it until it was too late to stop it, or at least, limit the damage. It's been a crazy fall, needless to say. Lots of stress, trying to remind myself to have gratitude. It could be infinitely worse, and I have a lovely little 8 year old, a dynamo of a wife, and a nice home in the Sierra Nevada's. I just can't handle stress and anxiety when it all clumps together at the same time lol.

Ouf... a lot to handle all at once amigo. But you're so right to keep your eyes/mind on all the good things you have.

This is arguably hypocritical considering I don't believe in drug prohibition, but I have a strong
negative reaction to legal gambling. It should at least be illegal to advertise gambling.
It's obviously a complicated problem when you think about possible ways to lessen
the harm it does to society. I have not watched it since years ago but these times
remind me of Back to the Future II what with Golfy being re-elected and deified by
so many.
WTF.
In any case, I can definitely relate to what you said about stress and anxiety. I hope you
find effective ways to cope.
Thanks to everyone who replied to my post about my daughter's marriage. Even though I've never met
any of you in person (actually not quite true, I've met a couple folks), it's good to have folks to share
things with, dare I say a virtual family. And not unlike a family in that we don't necessarily agree
all the time. That would be boring and not conducive to growth.

Legal sports gambling is one thing. Sports completely saturated by it is another thing entirely. It's disgusting how easily sports leagues, teams, networks, and players so readily and readily suck from its teat.

Not a good day today. I just learned a dear friend of about 30 years has decided to enter
home hospice care. He has been battling cancer. This is a person of extraordinary character
who one can only feel fortunate to have been friends with.

Although the rising oceans may change my mind, I’ve been looking at Lewes as a place to relocate for a long time. A friend of mine just moved there. What did you think of living there?

We bought our Lewes house in 1996. It was a second home for 8 years, & then we moved full time. Over the last 20 years, the place has changed radically -- huge amount of development & an enormous influx of retirees. The infrastructure isn't up to it, nor are the plans in place to upgrade that infrastructure significantly.
We had what LeeAnn Wilkinson (look her up) once told us was "the best property in Lewes," a sizable mid-century house on 2.75 acres less than one mile from the center of town. But the town lost its hold on us.
Now, keep in mind... I have kids & grandkids in Chicago & SF, so that being 2 hours from an airport meant I didn't get to see them as much as I wanted. & my wife's kids/grandkids are all in the DC area, which also was an attraction for us. Given the rapid growth of the area, leaving obviously puts us in the minority!

Lots to love about the town.

You moved a little too quickly, I have a beautiful house in Brookland I am just finishing up this week I could have sold you!

One of my besties, the one that recently entered home hospice, died yesterday.
Not a surprise but a real tough one. Incredibly accomplished, incredibly considerate.
And too young (64) to be gone so soon. He will be missed a lot.

Sorry for your loss, Jim. Condolences to all who were close to him.
Being 82, I started losing friends I loved some years ago.... Not easy.

Re: Life
Dropping off my son who is beginning a new phase of his life today. After getting his MS in Sports Leadership at VCU,
then working his first year at JMU he got a job at N Ariz U in Flagstaff.
Wife and I are naturally thrilled and appropriately proud.
But he's moving far away so opportunities to see him in
person will be much more rare. It feels like a bigger
threshold than dropping him off in Roanoke to begin
his BA. Godspeed young man.
His big sis remains close by so there's that.

Congratulations to your son -- hope he knocks it out of the park!
Flagstaff is a really nice town, so you can think of this as increasing your opportunities for travel!

Thanks PiF. I'm definitely thinking along those lines.
