Greatest need is probably the OL but Shanahan hasn't done well with OL picks in the first or second round.

Probably need to look at DL, both interior and edge rusher because it's very obvious that they have nothing besides Bosa and they may cut Hardgrave to save cap space.

Also should be looking at LB in case Greenlaw doesn't fully recover.

Also should be looking at another TE who can make catches downfield because Kittle is getting to an age where he would be brittle, if he isn't there already. Also tired of him being the only downfield threat as TE -- miss the days when they had both VD and Walker at the same time.

But I have grave misgivings about letting Shanahan and Lynch run yet another draft. Depending on how the rest of the season goes, they should be looking at finding someone to have the last word on football personnel decisions, including coaching hires.

Letting Kyle hire the DC and the Special Teams coach has not worked at all.

that's shocking tbh considering DL is the single unit we've invested the most high draft capital into as well as $$. this is such a weird team.

QB QB QB. Can't stress it enough. This team finally needs a game changer, not a game manager.

How many picks has Shanahan used in the first round? he drafted McClinghey years ago and then maybe Banks in the 2nd? OL needs to be a high priority. Trent hasn't got much time left and the other tackle isn't any good. Nothing on the bench appears to be starter quality material. Brendal might not even be backup quality. Cutting Hargrave results in big cap hits and they won't be getting any cap savings by cutting him. They are stuck with him for a couple more years.

Depending on where we pick and who's on the board I definitly want to see this team trade down and get as many 2nd and 3rd round picks as they can.

The offensive and defensive lines need work but I don't think they need homerun first ballot HOF picks. Offensive line needs more Puni's and the defensive line needs more DJ Jones kind of guys. Guys that are more fringe pro bowl player types.

Again definitly depends on where we draft and board status because I wouldn't pass on an elite DT or pass rusher nor would I pass on an elite OT if they were on the board.

OL. If our OL could have picked up a blitz near the goal line, we could very well be defending champs right now. Last season, we had a QB and RB both finish in the top 4 in MVP voting. For our offense to get back to that level, we need significant upgrades to our OL. A successful rebuild begins in the trenches and our OL and DL need improvement.

We also need a new ST coach who actually has a viable special teams strategy and draft guys in the later rounds who can provide what that coach needs.

i'd love a guy like Wyatt Milum in the 1st to come in as a RT and maybe be the LT after Trent is gone but lord knows this FO won't go OL in the first.

and if that's the case, I'd love a trade up to get Mason Graham if he's in striking distance, and then address with OL with the 2nd/3rds.

Would not surprise me. Olineman esp tackles are a premium position in the NFL and the best way to acquire is through the draft.

yup, but doubt Kyle/John go with an OL in the first anyway, so we'll see what happens

He picked McGlinchey at #9, who didn't play well here.

I don't know how well he's playing for the Broncos but he's their starter at RT.

He's set to make almost $24 million a year the next 3 seasons.

He was a weak link when here but can't be any worse than the guy the 49ers play at RT now.

Yeah, McGlinchey shows that they aren't adverse to going OL in the 1st round. They might be reluctant to do so, but they have shown they aren't closed minded to it.

Anyways, I have paid minimal attention to college ball the last couple seasons. So I really don't know much about Wyatt Milum. Does his profile project to be a Shanahan type of O-tackle?

yea, McGlinchey and Banks are the only two OL they drafted in the first two rounds their entire tenure, and probably they regret both picks at this point. just not their philosophy to take OL that early and I'd consider these two picks as outliers for this regime atthis point.

re: Milum, not really sure what Kyle wants from his OTs tbh, Milum looks athletic enough for me, is pretty big too, and should be able to play both tackle positions long term, but they'd probably rather take a DL or a WR instead tbh.

McGlinchey at least before the leg injuries added up was an elite run blocker. He just had a major case of what seems to be a disease that all 49ers RTs get and that's completely blowing in pass protection in critical moments in the game.

McGlinchey is a poster child for the biggest problem we have with Shanahan in that he completely falls in love with run blocking specifically the ability to get to the 2nd level of a defense he'll seemingly ignore all the other issues with the person.

I'd imagine anytime Shanahan created an offensive lineman in Madden he allocated every point into the run blocking stat.

Running the ball is the offenses bread and butter so I don't have an issue focusing more on guys that are better run blockers than pass blockers but it'd be nice to have a little more of a balance than taking guys that are decent run blockers and awful pass blockers.

the weird part is you don't really have to pick either or if you're willing to spend the assets, there are OL that can do both you just need to draft them high lol

I was through with McGlinchey when some smaller edge rusher pushed him into the QB's face on one play during his last season with the 49ers.

Few people complained about letting a former #9 pick of the draft just walk.

But it counts as another bust against the Shanahan/Lynch regime.

McClinchey is playing slightly better than McKivitz but not by much. I have no issue with letting.him go. McClinchey is a better run blocker but he wasnt worth that contract and the slight dropoff between McClinchey to McIvitz is worth the salary savings between the two
