Cleveland/GSW/Nets

Post#1 » by bgrep14 » Tue Dec 3, 2024 12:57 pm

Cleveland: Struss, Travers, and Tyson
Cleveland: Sharpe and DFS

Nets: DFS and Sharpe
Nets: Melton, Moody, Travers, and a 2nd

GSW: Melton, Moody, and a 2nd
GSW: Struss and Tyson

Cleveland: address 2 positions of need from 2 positions of depth

Nets: Get a couple younger guys to add into their prospect mix with a pick.

GSW: Get a player who fits the GSW style of offense for an expiring.

Brooklyn would want more (especially picks) for DFS in my opinion

Fanspo's trade machine says Moody can't be traded. I'm not sure that's true but he at least counts as more money in trades. You might fix that by sending Tyson to the Nets instead, possibly cutting GSW out as there's no other salary that fits.

But honestly if I'm the Nets I might prefer Tyson instead of Moody and a 2nd. Tyson was a recent 1st and outside of typical rookie mistakes has shown some good promise, and allows the Nets to keep him long-term after restocking the roster in free agency and the draft in the next few years. Moody should also be a rotation guy but he's locked in for less time.

If I'm the Cavs, I understand this trade but probably wouldn't make it. I wouldn't want all of DFS/Sharpe/LeVert/Jerome/Merrill hitting free agency next offseason, it has too much potential to destroy the continuity of the bench and not a lot of options to rebuild it if guys decide to leave.

What do you consider the GSW style of offense, and which player do you see as a fit? I don’t regard either as a great shooter or defender. Strus is a good distributor for his position, so maybe you’re talking about him?

Agreed. Warriors, imo, are looking for two, maybe 3, types of players:

1. A legit #2 offensive threat capable of creating their own shot and beating their man off the dribble.
2. A player similar to Melton, a strong POA defender who isn't a negative on offense. Some ball handling and distributing skills would be nice.
3. (Optional) A stretch 5.

I agree. BK is not getting enough here. If they won't get a first for DFS and Sharpe they would not agree to this trade.

This is the Cavs overpaying based on positional scarcity and what comes after this season is disaster pants in terms of payroll/ roster construction. None of LeVert, Ty Jerome, nor Merrill are under contract for next season. Meanwhile the Cavs are giving up Strus and Tyson, both of whom are under contract for multiple seasons, for Sharpe (expiring) and DFS (P.O.) The Cavs are not going leverage themselves while in the tax this way. Certainly not with the first and second aprons in play.

From the Nets perspective, the reporting is that they're not interested in taking back long-term money. I know the O.P. is a LeVert fan, but he remains the most likely salary filler due to his expiring status.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Yeah, Moody was extended so he's subject to the poison pill provision. His outgoing salary would be $5,803,269, incoming $10,825,817.
