Rockets went out and signed Fred and Brooks. Before that they won like 21 games.
OKC’s best player was acquired through a trade not the draft. If Kawhi doesn’t choose LAC, OKC is sitting with a core of Williams and injured Chet.
Spurs are 10-9.
Amen Thompson, Sengun, Tari Eason are the real drivers of their turnaround.
Drafting isn't the only avenue in a rebuild, trades also matter. A common misnomer amongst anti tankers. Trading in a tanking scenario is easier because winning isn't the priority.
Spurs got a widely considered generational player (this should require zero explanation).
With the Spurs, it should be noted that they had a 86% of not getting Wemby even though they had the 3rd worst record. That would have likely resulted in them choosing between the Thompson twins, Henderson, Miller, Couibily, etc.
Sengun and Eason were mid 1st rounders
OKC's amazing rebuild is a direct result of the lopsided Clippers trade for Paul George. OKC acquired George a year prior in a complete NON tanking move.
Moral of the story? There is no right way to build. Draft is a good way to build assets expecially for rebuilding teams whose cupboard is bare. That said, Raps fans dont need to panic if the pick doesnt land top 5.
The biggest issue Raps fans right now should be worried about is the Ed Rogers vs Masai Ujiri fued/Ujiri contract status, but noboby here really talks about that.
