Dec 15th - Ingram to Pistons

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Wed Dec 4, 2024 2:41 am

Given the direction of both clubs, ill offer this idea for Pistons to land Ingram

To Detroit
-Brandon Ingram (1 year, $36 million)

To New Orleans (waive Reeves & Brockington)
-Tim Hardaway Jr. (1 year, $16.2 million)
-Simone Fontecchio (2 years, $16 million)
-Wendel Moore Jr. (1 year, $2.6 million)
-2025 Washington 2nd round pick (projected #31-33)
-2026 Golden State 2nd round pick

Why?
-The Pistons look to make a move to improve their starting 5 without giving up a 1st as they look to at least be a play in team if not top 6 seed. They can backfill roster with minimum guys.

Cunningham/Sasser/FA?
Ivey/Thompson/Beasley
Ingram/Holland/Klintman
Harris/Reed/FA?
Duren/Stewart/FA?

-The Pelicans get under the tax and lower their cap accordingly as they get a rotational wing, 2 2nds and expirings for Ingram as the Pelicans look to re-tool in off-season with high 2025 1st

Murray/Alvarado
McCollum/Hawkins/Green/Moore
Murphy/Hardaway/Fontecchio
Jones/Matkovic/Robinson-Earl/Williamson
Missi/Theis

I think the Pels would rather let Ingram expire than deal him for this kind of package.

I don't think Ingram hired Klutch to get dealt to the Pistons. Can't see them letting that happen now.

I'm no fan of Ingram but this is outright trash. At least ask for Stewart or Duren rather than THJ

I don't think his market is great, if Pistons pony up he'd be better served taking the money.

That may be the smart route. But a recent report claimed Ingram halted a trade to the Jazz over the offseason who were willing to pay him the big money, but Ingram didn't want to play in Utah. Detroit Pistons fall into a similar category.

Could also be he felt going to the Jazz would hurt his stock (either deliberately or indirectly by tanking) or they'd be less cooperative in a S&T (which almost assuredly is the case knowing Danny Ainge, dude treats players like chips) which would restrict his market even more, and threatening not to re-sign was the best course of action to avoid falling into that trap. Or maybe not, but my point is that there's more than one reason that would explain his actions.

He would if we're the only team that's willing to pay him the big bucks. Which would suck but he's gonna go to where the money is and I don't see any team offering him what he wants

THJr Fontecchio and basketball Paul Reed with multiple 2nd rounders is what I'd do. Saves them luxury tax this year and go forward next year with expiring deals in Fontecchio and Reed. Solid role players. Multiple 2nds. Done. Sign the deal Pelicans lol

I think they can get better value, but the package is much better than letting him expire, Fontechio is a good backup wing on a good deal and 2 2nds is better than nothing.
They also duck tax.

Agreed. This trade proposal is a pass for them.

The OP is probably the max I'd offer for Ingram. I'd rather try to keep better lottery odds and a better cap position this year than pay more.

And FTR the rotation would be more like this:

Cunningham/Ivey/Sasser
Ivey/Beasley/Sasser
Ingram/Holland/Thompson
Harris/Thompson/Klintman
Duren/Stewart

Pelicans forum can correct me if I am wrong, but my guess is that they would want more than expirings and 2nds just based upon the way their salary cap lines up next off-season. Whether they let Ingram walk via FA or trade him for expirings they are pretty much already at the salary cap threshold so they will be stuck with the current roster.

I don't think they are that worried about the cost of the team, they are more worried about Ingram cost hence why they have been okay offering him 35-40 million extension, but he wants more. All this to say that i don't expirings are very good, they would be better off bringing back longer salaries of guys they either want to play or guys that can be moved as filler moving forward.

I'm not sure if NO will get better offers, but there really is no reason to just do a salary dump of ingram. May as well gamble on resigning him or getting something minor like this in a sign and trade.

I'd do it for Detroit, but appreciate that relatively speaking it's a fairly light offer.

However Ingram's market will be limited - he clearly wants a max deal (or close to) and very few teams would be willing to pay that, so can't imagine there's a lot of competition to trade for him. Detroit would consider offering the contract because we need another scorer alongside Cade and we simply aren't a FA destination.

If it's clear to NO that they aren't going to re-sign him they should get whatever assets they can. Fontecchio hasn't started the season strong but in his short career he is a solid outside shooter on a reasonable deal, and the Wizards second rounder will probably be the 31st pick. It also means they can do a proper tank and maximize their changes to capture the Flagg.
