We're better off just keeping Mitch if the other option is to trade multiple picks for a backup. At the end of the day, he would be KAT's backup.
Kessler nor Poeltl make any sense for this team, trading for a starting center to be a backup when there's an all-star MVP caliber center already on the team, with 3 backups makes no sense.
We will agree to disagree then.
The only decision this FO has to make is whether or not they believe Mitch can stay healthy or not.
If he can, he's the # 1 offensive rebounder in the league and a menace in the paint on defense. You do not need to nor should you want to replace healthy Mitch.
If the FO believes Mitch can get healthy, you keep him. If not, you trade him.
Mitch's record has clearly shown at this point he CAN'T stay healthy. Even when we get him back the pattern clearly shows he will not be on the floor for too many games before suffering another injury. Now his usage with Towns would be lower but you could keep him AND get a guy like Kessler who will 'only' cost 2FRPs or a prospect or two and 1FRP.
To me Kessler ensures you have elite rim protection depth for a team where that is really the only thing missing.
