Brown’s value is as an expiring contract. Nothing more, nothing less. I mean he literally hasn’t played this season and there’s roughly two months before the trade deadline. What team is giving up any value for him?

Teams gave us 2nds for Davis and Thomas.

Let's wait and see

That was because we absorbed them into our cap. Immediate salary relief. I don’t know how much salary we can take back in a trade but it will limit the moves we can make. At this point we could probably get a second for Brown purely his expiring contract. Anything beyond that I think he’d actually have to get on the court and build up his value

I agree.

I am only expecting 1-2 2nds+filler in which 1 of those filler pieces could be a reclamation/development project.

And this is why they are keeping him OFF the court until in better game shape. Better to get the cobwebs shaken off behind closed doors than in front of anyone. I would not be shocked if he doesn't play until after Xmas

Magic send Anthony, Harris, and 2027 1st. I view Harris and Anthony as bad contracts. They aren't young or even good role players. They'd fill in while we rebuild but using capspace and the roster spots on them isn't great.

We can't really take back that much money if we trade some of these expiring guys away (Brown, Boucher, Davion) because we already have $150M in salary committed for 2025-26 and we have our draft pick to think about (probably $6M+ at least). That leaves us maybe $27M or so under the luxury tax level, but it could be as little as $20M if we win the number 1 pick in the draft. I don't see us trading Brown and taking back equivalent (or more) money on a longer term contract for this reason, if he's traded I expect at least some of the money coming back will have to be expiring.

Could the Heat perhaps send us Ware and compensation for taking on an extra year of Rozie’s and saving them a load of luxury tax this year on top.

Bruce for Rozier, Ware saves them 6.5 million salary and additional in taxes this year. Getting Rozier, means we can move off of Mitchell and have Rozier as a backup guard on an expiring next year.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

We got almost 38 million in room under the tax next year assuming Scottie isn’t all-nba which seems like a stretch. The tax threshold for next year is nearly 188 million.

You need to allow for our first rounder, $6 million for #10 to $13.8 million for #1. If you assume we get #5, at $9 million, I think you'll find about $28 million left over for 3 spots. That assumes none of our expirings return. Ideally we tie up as little of that as possible in salary coming back in trades to maximize flexibility again next year.

I agree.

I am only expecting 1-2 2nds+filler in which 1 of those filler pieces could be a reclamation/development project.

Every team knows he's a solid rotation player. That carries value for teams who will likely be dumping salary and potential rotation players of their own in a trade for him.

The apron and tax issues have created a premium if you can not only do 1 but both of these:
- provide cap relief for next
- provide tax relief this year

There are a bunch of potential trades that can do both at one time. The Vezenkov space allows us to absorb around 5 mil, and that's enough to take a lot of teams entirely out of the tax. Then there's the smaller matching contracts to save space next year.

A lot of these little trades are actually easier with Boucher or Davion, but Bruce likely brings in the best value if a trade at his contract size comes in.

Indeed. In addition, injuries - Melton’s being a prime example - open up unexpected possibilities.
