Nineties Players Redux Draft R1 - Stan vs DCasey91*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Fri Dec 6, 2024 5:44 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

It's weird voting on a matchup where both teams didn't submit a write-up.

These are actually quite similarly built relying heavily on scoring punch from the bench with two relatively heacy usage scorers in Petrovic Peja and Harper Detlef. While Stan's duo off the bench is the better one, DCasey91's is better defensively with Harper though it mitigates with better overall defense from Stan's starting lineup.

What separates those teams for me are small issues like Pippen having a downgrade year while he's Stan's second best scorer in the starting five while DCasey has Reggie, and also Petrovic not really being a true facilitator as backup PG. Also having Duncan on Stan's main focal point in Shaq should be a large factor.

It's hard to care about this without writeups for either team. I do believe I broadly prefer DCasey though. Kidd/Miller/Duncan is as fundamentally sounds as it gets and they are all in their peaks.

So that team.

Both teams are pretty deep, but I think prime Stockton vs downgraded Kidd gives Stan the advantage. Vote Stan.

My bad guys have the timezones completely mixed up lol (future timing is weird).

Anyway the reason for 09 Kidd is I wanted to compartmentalise his role to the effect of

1. Not a great offensive individual player but he is the ultimate team guy thus I wanted Duncan/Miller/Grant to be more of the vocal point. Kidd is the table setter
2. His role on the team is exactly what I want Kidd to do and frankly these are his best qualities

Table set, pass, Shoot C&S/Off Dribble, Defend 1-3 like a madman (most important), Rebound steal etc etc all the good stuff that Kidd does all the time.

I won't do a full write up as it wouldn't be fair but that's the specific reason (55ts% career high on lower volume but once again the compact role is what I wanted) and his basic metrics is still pretty darn good.

Talent is pretty close but I prefer the balance of DCasey's team. Stan has more exploitable weaknesses (Pippen and Christie being erratic shooters, the Peja/Petrovic combo defensively, lack of a backup PG) that need to be worked around, and I don't have a writeup to outline how he would work around them so...
