UTA-DET

Post#1 » by HadAnEffectHere » Sun Dec 8, 2024 5:11 pm

Utah gets: Ausar Thompson
Detroit gets: Walker Kessler, Drew Eubanks

Why for Utah: Tank harder by trading away an established quality center and get a potentially higher upside wing. Utah also clears space for Filipowski to start and adds an actual SF to the roster. Utah also delays the need to pay their young players by another year.

Why for Detroit: Replace the terrible Jalen Duren with a league average starting center who fits their timeline. Probably propels them into the postseason and clears the horrible Ron Holland-Ausar Thompson fit.

No Utah won't do it.

Honestly I'm not the biggest Ausur fan either. He's had injury concerns and not nearly as good as his brother.

Utah is trading a better player in Kessler and getting no draft capital back. Utah passes.

Given where DET is -- young, still looking up at the play-in -- it just doesn't make sense to trade a player with higher upside for an more established but lower ceiling player. Ausar is high risk, and the health is a real concern, but potentially high reward: It makes more sense for DET to gamble that one of its recent 5th overall picks work out, and if that's Ausar, he fills a greater need than C

I get it for both teams, but I like Kessler a lot and would like him to stay. We should tank harder by trading Sexton, even of the return is just some 2nds. Also, that clotting disorder Ausar has scares me.

More than fair offer, but Detroit really should look for a shooter and not a third center.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Fourth center. We have three. If we are trading for one, Duren should be going out as part of the package.
Sidenote but having Eubanks and Beefstew on the same roster seems ill-advised.

Sweeten the pot for Utah.

Holland/Duren + 2 2nd rounders.

What say you Utah fans?
