Yea, both good for him (and glad he isn’t in LA or NY). Also so glad that’s not us locked into 7.

Will miss his personality big time.

It's for sure the right move for us not to give him that contract but I'd love to be one of the teams that can do it and not have it be a big deal if it doesn't work out.

Willy isnt worth that contract today, dude is a K merchant. Injury concerns will only get worse after 30 for him. I put less stock into the clubhouse leader stuff also when the team has been out of the first round of the playoffs the last couple seasons.

I don't know that it's a foregone conclusion that Ortiz moves. I think that Turang probably being able to play elite SS too gives them the option to grab anyone at 2B/SS/3B. They only need a stopgap. Pratt probably starts in AA next season and seems like he's on the fast track. He's young enough where they can easily have him play full seasons in both Biloxi and Nashville, but I wouldn't be totally surprised if Pratt is in Milwaukee by early '26.

I wonder what our final offer was to Adames, or if we even made one.

If they don't find a stop gap, they could target a major-league-ready 3B/SS/2B with a Devin Williams trade, too.

Meanwhile the smallest market in sports signed an all-pro safety and top 5 running back and are contenders. The small market basketball team has been able to retain one of the GOAT for 12 years and has a higher payroll than New York and Los Angeles. Yes yes spending money doesn't guarantee anything. But it would be nice to actually be able to be in the conversation. Maybe MLB can be fixed with a golden at bat.

Salary caps make a big difference.

How did the Yankees let that happen?

David Stearns is probably having the craziest whiplash to go from penny pinching for utility guys in Milwaukee to just dropping off dump trucks of cash to players in New York. Why do I have to love you, baseball. You break my heart.

That's so long and so much money.

Isn't it wonderful? LOL.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

Contract wont age well. Just as all 10 year+ ones do.

Yeah it won't age well but it won't cripple the Mets.

They offered 16/$760. One more year and less total money. Not sure if they included the 5th year opt out that the Mets put in there, nor the provision which would let the Mets void that opt out if they increased his AVV to $55M, which would make the total deal 15 years for $805M.

$50 million a year for 15 years with no deferrals is insane.
