$50 million a year for 15 years with no deferrals is insane.

I didn’t realize the Orioles gave Sanchez 8.5M/year. Good for him. I thought Brewers decline was not surprising at 1/4 of that price.

Cohen won't lose sleep about this, but the Mets have committed to pay Soto a minimum of $255M for his age 37-41 years.

Just think about that for a moment.

Watched Olney and Passan laugh about what an overpay this way. They're right in a way that the market hasn't corrected itself.

Man..., players deserve every penny they can get but this is what happens when there is no cap. how can teams like the brewers expect to compete CONSISTENTLY when you got teams shelling out hundreds of millions. Our owner doesn't have a pot to piss in and he has to compete with these billionaires.

Margin of error is so slim for small market teams.

Boston gave up their 4th, 5th, 11th, and 14th best prospects.

Wonder what our equivalent would be. Unsure how Red Sox system ranks vs ours either. If worse, kinda wonder how in the Brewers were. Feel like maybe were used as leverage to squeeze an extra prospect out of Boston.

I think it would be something like Quero/Pratt to start, with two other prospects. Bostons 4th/5th guys were ranked 25/54 overall by MLB Pipeline.

In BA's updated Red Sox rankings they had Teel #4, Montgomery #6, and Meidroth #8.

I think it'd be like

Pratt
Bitonti
Payne
Meccage

Absolute haul.

It's interesting to me considering people were quick to say we were just being used as leverage and not actually seriously interested. This very much contradicts that.

Yea, it's certainly interesting and very different from how the Brewers have operated in the past under Stearns/Arnold. Even the Yelich deal was for a hitter with 5 years of control compared to a pitcher with two years of control and that doesnt even cover Crochet's injury history. I wonder what it was about Crochet that made him standout in a way other available stars in the past haven't. They clearly thought extremely high on him.

Part of the appeal maybe that they could try a Greinke maneuver with him if he was pitching well. Try to win with him for a year or a year and a half and then flip him again to recoup some of the lost prospect capital before he hit free agency.

Certainly possible although that ended up working out horribly for the Brewers when they did it with Greinke.
