With your subscriptions, are you subscribed year round or do you have like a mainstay (e.g Netflix) and then jump around the AppleTV's, D+ etc etc?

I currently have an annual D+ subscription which I probably won't pick up again when it's up for renewal. My Netflix just lapsed and I'll probably resub later when something of interest shows up. I've been on the Aussie HBO for like 3mths and have watched House of Dragon, Righteous Gemstones, Last of Us, Eastbound and Down, rewatched GOT, the Wire, and currently watching Penguin. I don't think I'll pick it up for a 4th month and just jump on another streamer to go through their catalogue.

I'll get back onto ATV+ in Jan when Silo S2 is all out and I'll binge that

I don't have HBO as it's pretty expensive for what you get (that's new) but I've seen all their really good shows, including recent ones like Succession, Last of Us, and even House of the Dragon.

I always keep Netflix. They don't always have the top tier content, but what I like is that release so much that there is usually something good there, AND you can binge all at once, whereas all the others are 1 episode a week, so you have to subscribe like 3 months to watch one show unless you wait for it to end and binge.

However, I did decrease to the Netflix with ads, which was $6.99 as opposed to like $15.49, and their ads are not bad at all. Usually a few 30 second ads throughout a show. However, my brother just told me he had an extra log in to his account ad free so I took that and canceled it. But I'd have it regardless.

I have Prime but always had it for free 2 day shipping, even before they had ads.

I also have AppleTV+. Apple has a lot of shows I really like, but it's a bit like HBO in the sense that they usually only have like 3 new shows going on at one time, and I may only like 1 of them, and they come out once a week, so theoretically this would be one to cancel for a few months, then buy a month, etc, but I don't have a lot of them, so I keep it.

Then I have Paramount/Showtime package..ad free. I originally got this for half off and they don't always have stuff I want to watch, but Paramount has a decent amount of good stuff along with a lot of movies. I originally got it for $5.99 a month but now it's $11.99 a month.

I do have a subscription to MHZ choice network too, which is for lesser known international shows, many from europe, which I like to watch.

Other than that, I will subscribe to stuff on Prime Day or Black Friday when they have deals like 99 cents a month for 3 months. I just canceled hulu, disney and peacock after having each for like $2 a month, but I rarely watched those anyway.

On Black Friday I will look for deals for STARZ, MGM+, Britbox and maybe AMC and Acorn. If I did I'd probably only have those for about 3 months and would watch anything that has been released in a year.

Overall, not counting Prime which I'd have anyway, I only spend about $30 a month for Netflix, Apple, Paramount/Showtime, and MHZ. If I still paid for Netflix, it would be between $35 and $40. At various times throughout the year, I will have a couple others on deals for like $2 a month...usually after Prime day or Black Friday for a few months. AMC is a bit more on their deals, like $5.49 (which is half price). I'm not sure there is anything on AMC that I want to see and haven't. They do have a ton of great shows, but I've seen them all.

Oh I completely forgot Prime. Yeah I have that as well as an add-on. I don't even think about it most of the time to be honest. Last show I watched was Fallout which was a banger. With ATV+, I do like their shows but for me, the stuff I'm interested don't come out that often and their library just isn't big enough imo to keep as a mainstay. For ATV+ all the show I watched I've loved like Silo, Constellation, Ted Lasso, Severance etc.

I'll definitely look out for those Black Friday/Prime Day deals. Not really streaming but I do also have Youtube Premium which I think is worth it for me because I watch a ton of docos, I use it as sleep aid lol and it's good for up to date stuff as well.

Right now, I have D+ (~$9), Aussie "HBO" ($19) and Youtube Premium ($10 as part of a family plan), so more or less $25-30 USD. I'll drop D+ next year then I'm probably hovering around $20 average which is where I would like to keep it at....unless of course we see another price hike which is becoming all too common.

I've never seen anyone mention Constellation. I really liked that. I love Noomi Rapace. It was a little complex at the end and some things were a bit hard to make sense of, but I like stuff like that. Love Severance, Silo and like Invasion and Foundation too. I loved For All Mankind once I got into it but it's gone a bit downhill the last couple of seasons. They seem to have the best sci fi, which is my favorite genre, and I feel in general, we need a lot more of it...and they don't prematurely cancel. I'm starting Disclaimer now..not sci fi, but thought I'd give it a shot.

Yeah Apple does really good SciFi. There's just a level of polish to their scifi series which I really like. I'll need to give Invasion a go. I tried Foundation but couldn't quite get into it, felt a bit like Dune which came out around the same time. Might need to give it another go at some point. Likewise with For all Mankind, just felt a little slow to me or perhaps it didn't intrigue me enough.

Constellation was pretty good. Noomi Rapace is great and overall, just a good scifi thriller which I can't get enough of. Oh Monarch was also a surprisingly fun watch.

I liked 3 Body Problem. It has it's issues, but I liked it. Invasion is very slow, which I think turned off some people, but I found it very intriguing. War of the Worlds on MGM+ is similar in that way...which I think turned off those expecting a ton of action which you would expect given the title. It had a lot of depth, but was slower. I think many that would have enjoyed it didn't watch it because they figured it was just an action series.

I'll take almost any sci fi I can get and will give them more leeway because I enjoy the genre so much.

As I've grown older, I've become less patient for slower starting shows. Probably because I just have less time more so than just not wanting to get into it. Incidentally, I got into Peacemaker yesterday and was able to binge about 4-5 episodes that was a joy because it got into the action pretty quickly, it was well written and action was also pretty good. Mostly trying to go through as much of our HBO before mid-month.

I’ve also been binge-watching Stranger Things on 123moviesfree lately. It's one of those shows that I can't stop watching once I start. The quality isn’t always perfect, but it’s free, so it works for me when I’m looking to catch up on shows or movies without any subscription hassle.

I remember I had to go to the bathroom but there was never a good time....not once. Great action, great visuals. Many talk or talked about it as a masterpiece or best action movie ever afterwards and which I always found a bit much. I think it was one of the most intense non stop action movies and looked amazing, and had great action scenes, but for me, most of my favorite action movies have to have some kind of plot. I mean, I thought it was a great movie for what it was, but also it was a bit absurd and didn't really have much of a plot/story.

I was thinking it was streaming on something else, but I watched it on some other streaming site a while back. I just had to go read my review...here is about the first half of my review...

I really liked this film and felt Anja Taylor-Joy was great, even without speaking that much. For some reason I didn't have extremely high expectations for this one, even though I really wanted to see it, in part because I never felt Fury Road was the "masterpiece" so many felt it was, even though it was a very entertaining movie with non stop action.

What I liked about this film in contrast with Fury Road is how much more characterization is given to Furiosa, watching her arduous journey as she navigates the challenges she had to overcome, and how she was so driven towards revenge, but being patient and biding her time, whereas Fury Road didn't really develop the characters at all and was just non stop action for 98% of the movie. But the first hour or so of Furiosa, in some of the other parts, could have moved a bit more quickly as well.

At about the hour mark, it really kicks into another gear, as you see the transformation of Furiosa into a badass...

....(there was more, but I'll leave it at that)

In the end, I gave them both very good ratings, but for different reasons...I explain why in the latter part of my review. This one was a bit sluggish at times but also had some great long action sequences, but it also had more character development, etc. While the first was basically pure entertainment action spectacle with no character development (or really any that I recall).

So if you think it starts a bit slow when you do check it out, it's a bit different, but in mostly a good way I think.

I felt like what it lacked in actual plot it made up for with the world building and cinematography. Like they cruise through this area with 0 explanation and the image just sticks with you.
