This might be coming too. Get the assets for AD, chase after Fox in the summer. Stay tuned

I could see James finding his way to Golden State for one last run.

That’s where I’m thinking he goes with Jimmy going to Houston. 3-4-5 is Houston Mavs and warriors, warriors will need to react to a Jimmy to Houston trade or they’re screwed

That's not a dam report. That's just Perk talking for clicks

Right but it’s also starting to be rumored which is why Perk mentioned it today anyways

Pelicans Want Brandon Ingram To Take Pay Cut On Extension, Trade Considered More Likely

Pelicans Want Brandon Ingram To Take Pay Cut On Extension, Trade Considered More Likely
Brandon Ingram's previous agents were seeking a contract worth $50 million per season with the New Orleans Pelicans as part of his extension. The annual average is near his maximum and the two sides were unable to get a deal done.

Ingram recently left Jeff Schwartz and signed with Shy Saee, Mike George and CEO Rich Paul of Klutch Sports as his representation.

The Pelicans have luxury tax concerns and are already at $157 million without accounting for Ingram's contract next season.

While the Pelicans highly value Ingram and would like to keep him, they are unlikely to reach Ingram's current salary annually on an extension, making the trade route much more likely than a long-term deal, sources tell ESPN.

Shams Charania/ESPN

Brandon Ingram contract is currently at 36 mill and Butler is at 49 mill. I think Butler is looking for at contract that would put him north of 58 mill per year. Ingram is looking for something around 48 mill per year.

That is a silly point. Teams will simply make capspace if they want Jimmy.

This is probably part of the equation of that is being worked on for next summer. If Miami is in the tax next year that starts the repeater tax (Miami has to get out for the next 2 years to not start the repeater tax). I'd say be prepared for mostly expiring contracts coming back unless Miami can figure out how to erase the Rozier mistake and turn his contract into an expiring contract.

Letting Butler walk in free agency and then saying "we tried" is the easiest way for Miami's FO to get under the tax and not have to take much blame.

Correct. Especially in this day and age with the luxury tax being so punitive and guys like Jimmy making so much.

Keeping him this year and letting him walk isn't a terrible option as it cleans up our cap sheet quite a bit.

From what I hear, he wants a contender, not just those three.

Probably going to be mostly posturing and nonsense until the trade deadline, then we'll find out if this actually has legs and if there are any worthy takers. There's no rush right now from a trade partner's perspective, they can wait and see how Jimmy is looking and if he's still healthy later in the year. Unless there is competition for landing him. Miami letting this out now though has nothing good to come of in as this lingers and drags on. I hope they manage a quality deal asap for the team's sake.

Sunday is the first threshold date that newly signed free agents can be traded. Something of note if someone like Bryant is going to be a throw in.

We need roster spots. Can’t take back so many players in trade with only one open and three 2 way players that deserve deals. Third team might have to get involved to take on excess.

Return to Miami Heat
