Utah-Miami-Lakers :: Butler to Lakers

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Wed Dec 11, 2024 1:28 am

Utah get Vando, Vincent, LAL27FRP(unprotect 1-4), LAL29FRP(unprotected)
Utah give Sexton, Kessler

Miami get Sexton, Kessler, DLo, Rui
Miami give Butler, Love, Burks, Jovic

Lakers get Butler, Love, Burks, Jovic
Lakers give Dlo, Rui, Vando, Vincent, LAL27FRP(unprotect 1-4), LAL29FRP(unprotected)

Jazz now have 2 unprotected Lakers FRPs. Ainge grinning like the Grinch.

Miami get a starting PG and C to join Herro, JJJ, Bam.

Lakers try to contend with Reaves, Butler, Knecht, Lebron, Davis -- Burks, Christie, Jovic, Love

I'd want Utah to extract a bit more value, but ultimately I'd say yes to this. I don't think the Lakers have a good medium-term outlook. Seems bad for Miami, Sexton/Herro/Terry have a lot of overlap and Kessler feels like a bad fit with Bam and blocks a path for Ware. Think Utah would be cut out here.

Don't think Kessler fits great in Miami with Bam and Ware already there. Also don't think the Heat would want to give up Jovic. Could just send Kessler to the Lakers (who desperately need him) and leave Jovic out of the trade.

I also think the Heat will ask for more. Not a ton more, but maybe '28 Lakers swap, or 2nds, etc.

The fit is really bad for Miami. I like both Kessler and Sexton but I don't see the role for either. Sexton is just like a Better version of Rozier who doesn't fit alongside Herro. So why are we investing more money into the same problem? Kessler is a backup center. We just invested in that position with our draft pick.

I would rather cut Utah out and deal directly with the Lakers

Kessler is definitely a starting caliber center, but he and Bam are a terrible fit, so he would be wasted on the Heat.

Seems like the value is there but the fit is bad for the Heat. Thanks guys
