Why would Miami do it for expiring contracts? Jimmy, himself, is expiring. We're not doing you any favors.

I get the impression that this is all just financial maneuvering. Jimmy doesn't make a lot of sense for the Rockets given his age, contract, expectations for a future contract, and limitations offensively. It would be pretty tricky just to get a deal involving Jalen Green/Steven Adams/Jeff Green (most tradable contracts) done and even then it's probably not an exciting trade for either team. Jimmy's saying I want an extension and I want to finish my career in Texas if I can't have that here while the Heat are saying no extension. And here we are.

If this is really true, this leaves only the Mavericks and Warriors as teams that would in contention to get Jimmy Butler. Don't see anyone else trading for him, unless he expands on the amounts he prefers to go to.

I really want to see GSW get both Jimmy and LeBron and just go all in with Curry for better or worse.

I actually think there’s a pathway for them to do it as well contingent to LeBron asking for a trade of course.

I hope the Mavs do not trade for him. I believe he would fit the Mavs (replacing Kleber) and I’d love to see him along next to Luka and Kyrie however I do not want the Mavs to gut their bench just to add Butler.

The Lakers make a ton of sense

They have some big contracts without term and are falling behind. He has a good relationship with Embiid it would make sense for the Sixers just don't see how we could trade for him let alone extend him with PG13 already here.

We could trade for someone making around 20-28M ish with two of Oubre and one of the Martins (would need all three for 28M) but nowhere near someone making 50M like Butler.

The Lakers could offer Rui, Russell, Vincent and Woods plus two first rounders. Would make a ton of sense for both teams Miami gets expirings and Lakers get someone who could help keep the season afloat

I disagree. Guys are playing deep into their 30s at this point, and Butler has not had a major injury nor anything chronic as far as I am aware. There is no reason the guy can't give a team another 2-3 good years. How many teams want to pay a premium for that will be low because there are only so many contenders with a 2-3 year window.

The other thing is, Miami isn't really into young players and picks; Riley likes veterans and hates the Draft. And there are are plenty of teams with good vets to offer that are interested in Butler (see below).

At any rate, as long as Butler has 2-3 suitors, Miami will get decent offers -- and there is nothing ruling out Miami extending Butler themselves. And I think Golden State (a deal around Wiggins and Payton II) and Houston (a deal around Brooks and 1-2 young pieces who might be moved to a 3rd team to get Miami more vets) are definitely interested. I would also think there are 1-2 sneaky teams that are/could be contenders and could inquire about Butler since it's really the only way they can get an impact player, namely Denver (likely a deal around Aaron Gordon unless there is some team dying to take MPJ  ), Cleveland (likely a deal around Garland), Minnesota (a deal around Randle and McDaniels or DiVincenzo), and Memphis (a deal around Marcus Smart and 1-2 of Williams Jr, GG Jackson, Jaylen Wells, or Santi Aldama).

Not without Kuminga it doesn't.

Yeah, and I would expect Kuminga to be headed to a 3rd team. I can't imagine Miami wants to pay Kuminga the obscene contract he supposedly wants.

On the Heat board, I thought a 3-way deal with Portland made some sense. It was something like:

Miami gets: Jerami Grant, GP II, and 2 1sts (1 from GS and 1 from Portland)

Golden St gets: Butler and Richardson

Portland gets: Wiggins and Kuminga

They wouldn't pay George, so why pay Butler?

Jimmy is younger than Steph Curry, and that's the main goal for the Warriors. A hungry all-star to push them into another championship or two before Curry hangs it up.

Jimmy is unselfish on the court, plays defense, but can be called on to carry load offensively if needed

He'd be a perfect fit.

The last thing the W's need is lebron standing around, stat padding, playing no defense (unless there's a highlight chasedown or steal)

I hope Jimmy goes somewhere he can win it all this year. Miami doesn't need a haul, just a couple picks and a serviceable player. Or he stays and miami enjoys his services a while longer.

There's a pathway for GS to send out about $100M in salary? What pathway would that be?

Those teams are his preferences, apparently. Like Lillard found out, it doesn’t always work out that way. Houston probably doesn’t want to trade for him. Dallas would have to give up too many rotation players to make the salaries work. I can’t see Miami wanting Wiggins contract. So, I think, if he’s traded, it’s gonna have to be to another team.

That team gets easily handled by the Thunder, or Celtics. Probably others are questionable at best. But why not I guess for them? Maybe they get a lucky Kawhi/Raptors year where a ton that needs to go right does go right.

Pretty damn late now. I’ve been advocating for years that the Warriors were screwing up and not realizing Steph was special back when they were effing around drafting Kuminga/Moody/#2 bust guy and foolishly trying to have their cake and eat it too. They waited years and while Steph’s still amazing, I don’t think he can take down the more powerful teams anymore as the #1.

Klay, Maxi, Hardy + picks. The Heat would never do this but it's my dream.

Add Phoenix to the list. No way in hell Miami is taking Bradley Beal's deal off Phoenix's hands. How else would it work?

I did a quick look at the trade checker and there's nothing there. Phoenix has no picks to trade and Beal, KD or Booker don't make sense in a deal.

However, I've thought that before and teams end up surprising me.
