losses like this you can see all the individual narratives come out …the KAT haters will find blame in KAT …the Shart D Riders will exaggerate his defensive effectiveness , the Brunson haters will act like he won’t adjust …Jesus calm the eff down ..losses like these are when you grow

It’s hard to win a game when we bricked as much as we did tonight. 40/93 FG, 11/42 from 3 and 9-15 FT.

Having said that, for all the crap we gave guys like Randle and RJ for pissing themselves come playoff time - Thibs is cut from a very similar cloth. It’s all cute when he’s miserable and angry when we are up 30. But when the game is clearly slipping away (and it was unbelievably obvious that it was around the 8 and change mark in Q3), he’s got this shook look on his face. It’s like his brain can’t comprehend that his pre-game scouting report wasn’t working and he was utterly amazed to see that Quinn’s strategic adjustments were in fact successful.

My main issue with Thibs is that while he’s certainly an X’s and O’s guy, I don’t believe his in-game processing is good. In fact it’s his worst trait as a coach bar none.

For me, he will always look for adjustments AFTER the game is played. He’ll sit in a dark room and watch 17 hours of footage and yes, his work ethic is second to none.

I just wish that he had the ability to try things, both offensively and defensively even if it’s for short spurts. You ever see a boxer change his stance mid fight? It’s all part of a calculated mind game to confuse his opponent and I just feel it’s something he’s been lacking since his Chicago days.

We watch two different games clearly

We are one piece away and that piece is already on the roster. Mitchell Robinson needs to get healthy. And with all this time they’ve giving him, once he’s back there better be no more injuries. Cuz if he gets hurt again, at that point you gotta move on and trade him for the best shotblocking big you can get.

The ship has already sailed on Mitch Rob.

If we’re depending on him to ‘save’ our season then the season is already over.

The Knicks make mid defenses look all world far too often.

If you were a casual that just watched that game you would think they have one of the best defenses in the league.

Thibs offense (or lack thereof) is a problem. Been saying it all year while everyone cites offensive rating stats. The offense does not pass the eye test. Physical /athletic defenses shut us down way too easily.

I was encouraged after the magic game, but maybe that was just a fluke.

Jacyn Goble, corrupt cop, corrupt ref

Remember the ref that called the bogus foul on Brunson that cost us the rockets game last year I bet that’s who Thibs is referring to

We clearly are watching two different games. All I saw was a bunch of easy points in the paint while KAT put up weak contests. Y’all can’t blame our 3 point defense on this one because the hawks shot the 3 terribly.

KAT will probably be flipped this summer or the following summer. It seems inevitable…

This is why I think KAT at the 5 is not the long-term plan here. Mitch will start. McBride should also be starting instead of Hart. Both of these players will hide the defensive shortcomings of KAT/Brunson.

YESSSSSSS
I’ve been saying this for so long. Also I would sit Mikal and hart. Start deuce and precious

Just my opinion… we’re not gonna like seeing both Brunson and KAT get hunted and torched by every contending team we face in the playoffs. It’s not a recipe for title success. We could put our heads in the sand about it but the truth of it will be clear as day in the playoffs.

An asinine take. Some folks show up after losses just to spew nonsense.

We had a nice little 10 or 11 point lead in the first half and right away missed some shots and let them close the gap. I've seen that a few games lately, inability to really put a team away. Lack of killer instinct maybe.

I thought Kat came out and played active defense from the start, with some steals and blocks. But it didn't last.

If Mitch hadn't gotten hurt and been out for a very long time, would Thibs have ever started Hartenstein in the playoffs? Probably not. I don't think he's the main problem probably. Don't want to pile on. But he's def not very inventive.

You could give some of the rookie time instead of continuing to pull the strings tighter and tighter. There is something to be said for psychology and openmindedness. It can relax the team.

JB and OG killed the offense, KAT and Mikal killed the defense. This looked like our first week of the season.

I’ve long said that all of thibs coaching takes place before tip off. Once that ball is in the air those guys are on their own. Pray everything works out exactly as planned because if not you’ll just be doing it until it does or fail spectacularly which is what happens most of the time.

His adjustments are nonexistent. He takes ages to try new things, test rotations, defensive formations, lineups. He still thinks packing the paint and giving up 3s is the way to play against all 29 teams. Blanket style coaching without forming individualized game plans based on how teams play.

Even during randles MIP season he was still starting eldritch Payton until game 5 against the hawks. He’s stubborn and not as great of a basketball mind people think he is. Old and washed up. Built some semblance of culture here but it’s time to send him packing and bring in a guy with a fresh working brain

I said this before the game there are a lot of mismatches in ATL’s favor. It sucks, but when Mitch comes back I want to run it against them again. I don’t think they win and it’ll put who they are as a team in perspective.

You can’t read too much into this loss or the loss to the Cavs they are both built to give the Knicks problems, due to size being on their size and a pesky guard who can penetrate and collapse the defense because we can’t run drop coverage well with KaT at center.

Both those teams are teams I want to see the Knicks face when Mitch comes back healthy. Until then the Knicks need to keep running with their 5 out death offense since that is all they can really do with KaT at center.
