I'm gonna attempt this absolutely ridiculous dish.

Did you make this yet? It looks pretty good.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I ordered the specific pan he's using in the video. Probably didn't need it, but Le Creuset was having a sale last week and I don't have a non-stick pan that can stand up to high temps in the oven. Hoping it arrives by the weekend because I'll try making it Saturday or Sunday. Last weekend I made the beef stock.

I always just use cast iron. Works fine.

Gonna work from home this afternoon so I'll be taking advantage and doing some meat braising. I think it's been about 15 years since I made beef and guiness short ribs so that's what's happening.

Was also gonna try my hand at bagel making this weekend. The first time I tried it they came out less than great. Anyone have a particular recipe they go to?

On a rare trip to the office today and popped out at lunch to do a spot of Xmas shopping. I went to a hobby shop and bought my older brother a couple of Revell model airplane kits, complete with the appropriate paint pots/glue/brushes/all ready to go- I got him a Spitfire and a Messerschmitt (both the appropriate models of each for the Battle of Britain). I was thinking "he used to be in to these a lot as a kid, this might give him a few quiet brain hours now".

Got back to the office, 3 different grown men saw I had a hobby store bag and asked me what was in it and when they saw it was model planes and I explained it was for my grown man older brother each of them nearly burst into tears with excitement and recounted memories to me of how much they loved them as a kid. I feel like this was a good, thoughtful purchase. :)

My dude, I am stealing this idea for my brother. I think he'd really dig it. Thanks!

Also- got char kway teow for lunch from the best purveyor of it I've found in my neck of the Sydney CBD woods and when they asked if I wanted it spicy I said "yes" and they then asked "white guy spicy or actually spicy?" and I smiled and said "actually spicy". It was so **** delicious but, suffice to say, maybe a little too spicy.

Sharing the idea in case it worked for anyone is exactly why I posted it- nobody (I assume!) would expect it as a gift. I thought it was a pretty good idea, then seeing the reaction from guys in the office I realised "oh, this is a great idea!".

Love that - I would have been the giddy brother or coworker in this scenario with model cars. I remember going to the hobby shop at West Gate Mall in Madison and getting a Dodge Viper, Porsche 911, and Nissan Skyline over the years. The shop was right across the way from Tilt arcade - at least in my brain it was.

Can confirm, good memory/gift for an old Millenial or Gen X'er.

I'm down near the harbour end of George St (I'm assuming the best is up in Haymarket). Malay Chinese, it's in the trendy foodcourt under Salesforce Tower. Their laksa is amazing (and probably the best bet), but the char kway teow is pretty bang on! Bit of a queue usually, can take a little while to be served.

It's the same Malay Chinese folks that used to be near MLC Centre years ago.

Anyone know a good spa destination for an overnight in the MKE area? Kinda of like Sundara? Want to get my wife and I a weekend in Feb/March.

Next year's trip is to Norway - Oslo and Bergen. If anyone has been, would love to hear some suggestions.

Anyone here ever play the dice game Fu? Or Foo? Played it a handful of times in the last 20 years but it's been a while and I can't find any record of the game existing online. I'm guessing it's just a Wisconsin variation of another game.

6 dice, 1's being worth the most?
