And we were absolutely destroyed on the glass giving up 22 offensive rebounds...KAT and Hart are the only two guys that can grab rebounds.
Brunson abandoned his troops. When they needed him to step up and be Jalen Brunson, he just sat back and watched Tre Young take over on his own home floor. Not what you want to see from your captain
Brunson had a horrible game. Some of the possessions were maddening where he would dribble the air out of the ball and then do nothing with it for 20 seconds leading to a terrible shot. But here's the thing. Thibs also has to adjust.
Dyson Daniels is obviously a very talented defender and has size and quickness to bother Brunson. But ATL has one the biggest defensive liabilities in the sport and we didn't try to exploit the Trae Young matchup defensively at all. You spam Trae Young actions until they have to send help defenders and then you get them scrambling.
How many times to we try to bring Mikal Bridges to screen for Brunson? How many times did we try to post up Mikal on Trae Young? How many times did we run Mikal/KAT P&R and make Trae Young fight through screens.
Brunson is an elite offensive player but on a night he clearly doesn't have it when he has the thoughest matchup why not try something you know a little different to exploit ATL's big weakness defensively?
Thibs' lack of offensive adjustments and frankly, imagination makes it very easy for opposing defenses that can switch or can afford to play a wing on Brunson.
The team has enough talent offensively to where Young should have been BBQ chicken for everyone on that starting 5.
I was disgusted by a lot of things last night, including the officiating, but at the end of the day if the usual isn't working you have to adjust.

Re: PG: Knicks vs ATL
She is f*cking horrible.
I'm sick of seeing KAT get slapped across the arms and wrists every time on offense with no call.
When OG got smacked in the face with no call, if I was Thibs I would have gotten thrown out of the game because I would have cussed all 3 of the officials out

1. Didn’t attack Trae nearly enough
2. Kept doing drop coverage no matter what
3. Couldn’t keep them off the O boards
We’re not a contender. Need more chemistry and better coaching.

We shot 26% from 3. Light in the ass Mikal isn’t attacking the paint or backing anyone down he’s scared of it so all he would do is either take fadeaway jumper or pass out and then we would end up bricking the 3

I strongly believe Leon Rose is more married to this roster he just constructed than Thibs. If Thibs proves to be the main issue ...we have a four year window more or less right now. Thibs will be bye bye.
The more likely scenario if I had to guess?
Thibs gets his full slate of need skillsets with the elite rim protector being the last piece and we start to play more like last year in the paint both offensively and defensively (which is the biggest thing DRASTICALLY lacking right now).

Re: PG: Knicks vs ATL
so I did some research because OG shot and misses were alarming. Games after he plays 40 mins this is what he shoots from 3.
3-8
1-8
2-7
1-4
0-4
0-3
2-8
1-9
He has played at least 40 mins in 8 games and these are the results 10 for 51 from 3....19.6% from 3
Otherwise he is shooting 43.7% from 3 when he is coming off less than 40 mins.
I'm not even counting a 0-8 performance after playing 38 mins in DEN and we know what that does to your body 38 mins is basically over 40 in Denver or a 2-9 performance against TOR after playing 39 mins vs DET. Those two stats are even counting from above.
Call it nothing or happenstance but OG shooting plummets after playing near or close to 40 mins the game prior. We ask him to do so much defensively a guy legs can withstand only so much.

That's putting a lot on Mitch seeing he can barely play half a season these days. If he comes back in Jan or Feb, it's probably 50-50 he's out for the Playoffs.

j4remi wrote:- Pick and Roll defense collapsed with KAT's foul trouble.
Yup,and KAT was getting mugged all night with few calls in his favor.
j4remi wrote:- Hawks switchability meants our floor spacers couldn't shoot, if they can't shoot over a closeout then the floor spacing lacks teeth. Donte only needed an inch, OG and Mikal aren't close to that lethal.
Agreed our 3pt shooters don't seem to have quick draws and out side of Josh Hart need some space to get their shots off last minute. Hawks are a very bad matchup for us right now. Daniels had Jalen in jail ....but also Jalen looked slow, I think he's playing hurt.
j4remi wrote:- The POA defense once again looks soft. There's no grit, nobody fighting through screens or latching onto a ball-handler's hip to slow them down. It's just soft.
Yes and I thought Precious might make a difference but he did not. Bridges...wasn't like this in Phoenix. He's a slightly built player but what happened with him on the defensive end? Is dude tired from having never missed a game and playing all those league lead minutes every night? As great as he is OG cant make up for the entire team on defense and Josh is just too small sometimes.
j4remi wrote:- The bench was a flop too, and that's with it's main three guys.
A yes a flop and because of the overly tight lineups there is no margin for error. Outside of Precious the only bench players Thibs plays are the midgets and for all the great defense he provides Deuce was just too damn small out there to be guarding 6'7"-6"9" wings.
j4remi wrote:- There was also pretty rough timing for Hukporti to sprain an ankle, because the Hawks size was killing NY on the boards. Huk's the best big on the roster at clearing space for others to rebound, though Thibs prolly wouldn't have used him anyway.
Right HUK would not have gotten any burn.
j4remi wrote:- If a team is athletic enough to run in transition and switch on defense, the Knicks are a cold shooting streak away from being in deep trouble.
Correct, we have such a low margin for error . It's kind ironic I thought KAt was going to be atleast a little soft but he's actually one of our tougher players, while Bridges just shows no physicality on defense and even offense...
I would like us to start experimenting with bigger lineups. And I would also like us to play with more pace.
We need to also need to address the Mitch Situation. I'm hearing now it won't be till late January or February for him to return. Can we afford to wait that long?
And if we decide to make a trade can we even expect to get a Kessler type outside of Kessler? Is such a player even available on the open Market? Can we afford that player? Because if not I'm not sure we wil have what it takes to consider ourselves a threat to team like Boston or OKC. We have fits now with this young athelic , big teams like the Rockets and Hawks...
This is why I'm hoping and praying that MCcullar turns out to be everything he could be. Because then we could eventually do this:
Starters
TOWNS
PRECIOUS
OG
MCcullar
Brunson
Bench
Hart
Bridges
Deuce
Payne
Mitch
That squad would fix our starting lineup's height, athleticism, motor, and softness issues.
...while simultaneously making our bench elite again. It all depends on MCcullar and our stubborn azzed coach.

Just like KAT could pop his collar and talk his talk in Toronto, Trae could rightfully celebrate his win.
Trae doesn't do that if the Knicks win. Knicks failed to execute. Getting mad at Trae after the game because we sucked at basketball is a sore loser move.
Just win.
I can't even be mad at Tae.
