This season we are 25th in rebounding and 21 in offensive rebounds. They lost their toughness.
I don't think rebounding has anything to do with it. They are sufficiently better offensively. Less opportunities for offensive rebounds. But I do think there's an edge that isn't there.
They are better offensively when they are hitting their shots and they put up 140. When the whole team is cold last year they had rebounding to give them more shots and take away the opponent's shots. Now when they are cold they dont have other ways to win consistently. Not enough rebounding, defense, or getting to the line.
Defensive rebounding is an issue, but when your team shoots well and also plays at a slow pace you're just not going to offensive rebound. For instance, the Cavs with their two bigs play at a faster pace than us and we get slightly more offensive rebounds per game than them, the only teams that shoot like us and do somewhat well on the offensive glass also play at the fastest paces in the league. The Mavs, Nuggets and Grizz play at the 11th, 5th and 1st paces, so there's just more possessions.
The defensive rebounding does need to get better, KAT and Hart are it as far as getting boards, last year Donte was better on the glass than Mikal is right now which is kind of sad. Teams like the Hawks, and I'd imagine the Magic when they're whole will be problems for us because their wings are bigger and can rebound like Hart.
