Indiana - Charlotte - Detroit

Post#1 » by Godaddycurse » Fri Dec 13, 2024 1:35 pm

Indiana trade: Toppin
Indiana receive: Richards, Reed

Charlotte trade: Micic, Richards, 2nd(s)
Charlotte receive: Toppins

Detroit trade: Reed
Detroit receive: Micic, 2nd(s)

Why for Charlotte: add cost controlled depth/running mate for Ball in the front court
Why for Indy: replenish C depth and free up room to re-sign turner
Why for Detroit: declutter their C position and get some asset(s)

at minimum Indy should throw a 2nd to Detroit and take one off CHA. Toppins a decent backup but so are Richards and Reed so not sure why we are the ones handing out draft picks

Why would Indy trade for *two* centers while also planning to resign Turner?
For Detroit, our guards are more cluttered than our centers. Reed is a luxury for us, but one we've been using and good depth to have when our other centers get injured or in foul trouble.

Hypothetically, it's that both Isaiah Jackson AND James Wiseman are out of the season with Achilles injuries, and Obi is the other guy playing center right now for Indy, as we just have Myles Turner left. So, it'd be Reed just for this year, and then let loose, with Richards for this year and going forward so Isaiah Jackson could rehab.

I definitely don't see Indy paying 2nds in this type of deal. I mostly don't see why Detroit would get a 2nd here, though, which kind of solves that problem here?

I do think that Obi is an absolutely perfect backup type for Indy at the PF spot, so it does hurt a bit to lose him, but the need for usable backup centers is GREAT right now, and the gained cap flexibility is solid, too, if Myles is to be kept.

If you have Jackson and Wiseman as your backup centers and both get hurt, it makes sense to transition to Richards and Reed.

I think I’d just look at Martin and Richards for Toppin though.

I thought about that too but think charlotte wants to keep martin as they are thin in front court/wings. Their fans want to trade micic instead whose behind mann and ball in the depth chart

Detroit have no incentive to deal reed for micic straight up/thats why they get a 2nd here

Richard and Reed are 3rd in the C depth chart of either team while Obi plays 6th-7th man minutes. Obi has done more and is a better player imo

I could have sworn OP said 2 2nds when i first read it, now I see that it says 2nd(s). at one 2nd, I'd probably do this. but yeah, a second one needs to be coming from someone else

Pretty solid trade. The Pistons might insist on waiting until the deadline as they're more competitive this season and Reed is worth more to them than Micic. The Pacers should be all over this as there are multiple teams who could use cheap backup centers right now. They shouldn't blink at tossing in a second to get this done.

As a Pistons fan I’m fine trading Reed. This return does not interest me, however, so I’d be a no.

I expect to be enticed into selling a player I’m not actively trying to trade. Two seconds and a player I can’t use doesn’t do it

I don’t really disagree with any of that but long term id think they’re better with Toppin versus Richards and either Micic or Martin. So if Indy needs the wing that might make a good defensive play a game, I think you don’t kill the deal.

Indy could use Reed and Roberts as different looks off the bench and the price is fair, sacrifice the better talent for the flexibility and the depth.

Think both ideas work but Detroit isn’t really needed if they have fallen in love with BBall Paul..

Do they not? Reed as a 3rd C versus Micic as a 3rd PG on the roster seems a pretty even swap. And seems easier to play Cade and another PG than it is to play 2 centers together, so a much easier route to minutes for Micic than for Reed. :dontknow:

I respectfully disagree. I think Reed's market is far more robust just do positional scarcity so even if there's not some great need for either guy, there's still league-wide trade value. That's before you factor in Micic looking like a borderline NBA player. The Pistons have guards they want to force feed minutes in order to see what they have. They'll need incentive.

Ah. As someone whose team has battled PG shortages and C shortages in recent years, I’m a big believer in teams needing 3 nba caliber PG’s moreso than teams needing 3 C’s. Playing McConnell and Keifer Sykes a couple years ago was MUCH worse than playing just Myles Turner (and Siakam or Obi out of position). But, just my experience.

That's almost entirely dependent upon roster construction IMO, but even if the Pistons weren't in their current situation, I think the jury's out Micic being an NBA caliber PG. Is he better than the failed prospect who they just let walk? The Pistons will have a handful of potential trade partners for Reed. No one is calling on Micic. They'll need incentive.

not just recent years. I forget what year it was and who was injured but I think it was when we have names like Vern Flemming, Haywoode Workman, and Ricky Sobers. One thing has changed though and that's the G-League and 2-way contracts. it is possible to have your emergency 3rd PG on a two-way, see Newton and QJackson,

I've not been on the trade OBI train but I can see this one. Walker and Furphy and Freeman can play behind Siakim and we do need to move an 8 figure contract to make room for Turner's next deal. OBI has been our short term answer at backup 5 and I think a move to improve that position is likely and could come as soon as next week.
