Anthony Randolph Announces Retirement

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Dec 13, 2024 1:53 pm

Veteran forward Anthony Randolph has announced his retirement from professional basketball. Randolph most recently played for Real Madrid in Spain.

The versatile 6-foot-11 forward was drafted by the Golden State Warriors with the 14th pick of the 2008 NBA Draft. Randolph spent six seasons in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets.

In 2014, Randolph moved overseas. He spent two seasons with Lokomotiv Kuban in Russia, before moving to Real Madrid in 2016. During his time in Europe, Randolph won EuroLeague twice and Liga ACB three times.

The 35-year-old was granted a Slovenian passport in 2017. Randolph then helped Slovenia to a gold medal at the 2017 EuroBasket tournament.

That makes for a great basketball career.

In 2010 the Knicks RealGM board was seriously juiced when we traded for him lol. Seemed to be an intriguing, versatile talent. NBA2K also gave him massive respect apparently

Warriors fans thought the same thing when he emerged from nowhere as a rookie(albeit with a green light on a bad team) - he was long, athletic, and skilled. Unfortunately he lacked maturity and basketball IQ and developed a reputation of being a bit of a knucklehead. His game never really seemed to develop after the early flashes.

I had no idea he had such a long career in Europe.

It's kind of crazy to look his career and compare it to someone like Josh Smith. Both players were very similar in skill set and mind set, but one of them spent 12+ seasons in the league and made $120M+, the other spent half of that time in the league and barely made over $10M.
