PHX - SAC (Durant for Fox)

Post#1 » by bpcox05 » Sat Dec 14, 2024 11:05 pm

I’m bored so let’s get a bit crazy & unrealistic…

——————————

PHX Gets: De’Aaron Fox & Trey Lyles
PHX Gives: Kevin Durant
Why for PHX? If the Suns feel like their roster is topped out with little chance of contending for a title, perhaps they are open to resetting around a Fox (26) and Booker (28) star duo which can push out their timeline for a few more years.

PG - Fox / Jones / Morris
SG - Booker / Allen / Lee
SF - Beal / O’Neale / Okogie
PF - Dunn / Lyles / Bol
C - Nurkic / Plumlee / Ighodaro

——————————

SAC Gets: Kevin Durant
SAC Gives: De’Aaron Fox & Trey Lyles
Why for SAC? The Kings do this to upgrade their #1 scorer while balancing their roster and improving the fit of their core pieces. On top of being a better #1 option than Fox, he also happens to be a near perfect fit at PF next to Sabonis (a PF with great size & length who can defend, block some shots, and space the floor). With Fox being sent out, it also helps clear up the log jam in the backcourt with Monk, Ellis, Carter, & Huerter picking up the minutes. I think it would be wise to follow up this trade with a DFS for Huerter+ deal to balance the roster even more.

PG - Monk / Carter / McLaughlin
SG - Ellis / Huerter / Jones
SF - Murray / DeRozan / McDermott
PF - Durant / Crowder
C - Sabonis / Len / Robinson

Suns win. Fox is not on Durant's level (even now), but he's 9 years younger and perfectly matches Booker's timeline, which would give them a much longer window for contention. So even if they're not a better team in the short term, their long term outlook improves significantly.

Exactly. That’s really the trade off/premise of this trade. Considering DeRozan is 35, perhaps it makes more sense for the Kings to add a better (yet older) player to see if they can make it out of the west.

Kings would have to take Beal as well. You can't spend 90% of your alloted cap on guards.

I don’t believe PHX can aggregate salaries. They’d have to deal him in a trade down the road.

Durant isnt the target at his age, isnt his injury status a warning sign to you?

No mid 30s players....

Lets have some longevity

To play devil’s advocate…it’s odd to say “no mid 30s players” while at the same time knowing we just traded for a 35 year old core/star player this offseason.

I'm thinking that if the Kings don't agree to take him simultaneously in a separate trade, it doesn't happen.

I don't think that this is a serious proposal.

Durant is the Suns' only potent frontcourt player, so dealing him for a PG is out of question.

Fox seems more like a Rocket or Magic trade partner.

Unfortunately, Sac doesn't have another $50M in bad salary to do that trade, and at this point and his salary point, Beal is bad salary...

I think this is a really fun trade idea. Suns build a sustainable long-term duo, Kings get better in the short-term. This feels like an offseason deal when neither team has achieved what they were hoping to, though.

Kings probably don't even want to do this trade anyway considering Durant's age and injury history, but proposing they just tack on an additional 50 million of salary somehow is ridiculous.

Also bumping this one considering the Kings FO seem to be scapegoating the coach which makes me think they’re going to be buyers at the deadline.

Exactly! The Suns are considerably over the 2nd apron and are .500. I like the idea of them selling off Durant and resetting around Fox and Booker long term. I think those two guys complement each other very well.

If Sac feels they can win a title in the next 24 months with Durant, it’s worth it. You can retool around Sabonis after the 2026 season. Or keep KD. Or trade Sabonis and blow it up then.

But I’d much sooner offer Demar, Murray, Carter, 2027 first and throw in a swap or two.. Obviosuly a different trade for Phoenix at that point. Trade Huerter to a third team in order to stay under the tax.
