K OLYNYK to OKC Thunder. Easy deal?

Post#1 » by MessiahUjiri » Sun Dec 15, 2024 4:42 am

OKC is ready to go in for the championship. They can use one more backup big, who can interchangeably play with Chet/Isiah. They have 2 1sts and 2 2nds this year, and will dangle something to upgrade their chances to win it all.

Toronto is in a rebuild, and even though they like Olynyk, there’s no real use for him. In this trade, the Raps get a young reclamation project in Dieng, and a 2nd rounder in the ‘25 draft.

Ousmane Dieng + ‘25 2nd + salary (Kenrich Williams)
For
Kelly Olynyk

Olynyk can play 20MPG at a high level, which means OKC basically upgrades the bench minutes that were going to Jaylin Williams.

I don't think you're getting Dieng for Olynyk (I'm not sure Olynyk even plays once Chet comes back). Maybe the second and other filler.

Dieng is a full 2 years younger than Jamison Battle, and also taller, longer, and a better theoretical prospect.

This post makes zero sense.

Dieng gets 11 MPG on OKC. Maybe you’re valuing him based on his draft stock from a few years ago? Hes the 12th man on the roster.

After 3 years, it looks like OKC has little use for him, and since they won’t resign him, it’s better to turn him into value that matches their championship window.

Olynyk can play alongside both Chet/Isiah, as he’s a low demanding playmaking C/PF. Hes basically upgrading the minutes from Dieng + Jaylin + Kenrich.

Battle is shooting >40% from 3 and fits well with the rest of our bench. I think Diengs role overlaps too much with Mogbo. He would be 3rd on the depth chart for our 3/4 position.

uh oh. Agbaji is a pet cat in Toronto. This is actually a really aggressive, overpay of an offer. But prices haven't come down yet in Toronto. :D

I’d do it. Texas Chuck has an obvious vendetta against Toronto fans, but setting that aside….this seems like a good idea.

Makes sense for both teams, as they are maximizing for different windows.

I think if Kenrich wasn’t the team favorite he is, you must add enough 2nds that Toronto doesn’t say no. Kenrich/Kelly works without adding another body..

Sit on Dieng another offseason in case he develops. Still so young and you’ve already held onto him for his value to be low enough that the OP doesn’t look bad.

I would not involve Topic in any deal like this.

I think if Toronto wants to make the playoffs as soon as next year then we should keep Ochai. Topic is a complete unknown and is blocked by IQ/Dick/Barrett in the starting lineup, and Ochai is a much better fit with Barnes.

Topic has a higher ceiling but nobody knows whats the chances are of reaching that given his major injury

Olynyk is fine, but the Thunder survived with JDub as their center for a hot minute. They'll be fine till Chet gets back. The more pressing need is scoring.

I think the Raptors like having Olynyk around for veteran reasons. I doubt they'd just give him away like this. Dieng is in his third year and hasn't really shown anything. I don't think he's a long term NBA player.

I rather keep topic off trades talk . I don’t believe Dillon jones have much value if at all. So first and seconds then for value. And Dieng plus for salary matching.
