Hopefully teams around the league see this and restructure their defenses to stop Pritchard at all costs. Would Tatum's numbers improve then?

Perhaps a change in username would help as well? Why is he only going for 2? Might I suggest TatumForStepback3IsAutomatic?

He should be shooting better than 45% from the field at 6'9 regardless

Check back again in March.

No way Tatum ends the season at 45%.

He keeps up with his current shot diet, I doubt it raises much higher

He usually starts slow then picks it up in the 2nd half of the season.

That's just not true. At least for the previous two seasons.

TS is a combination of multiple %.

Do you have the numbers for only the FG%?

We're only talking about the FG% because you said it's low for a 6-9 player.

I think it's his 3pt shooting % that's lowering his FG%.

It has been posted here that Tatum's % inside the paint is high.

So I believe it's the 3PT % that's pulling his FG% down.

March is the time to watch out for Tatum because that's where he'll make his final push for MVP.

Jokic is the best player but they aren't giving him a 4th MVP if the Nuggets are hovering around .500 all season. It's not best player it's most valuable player. Winning matters.

If the Nuggets go on a run, yeah sure it's Jokic. Otherwise it's Tatum battling with SGA, Giannis and maybe Luka.

2% of Celtics fans being annoyed by JT is not a factor in this award and I don't get being mad at good things.

Read the tea leaves man. The media is already gearing up to give Jokic his 4th award. And they have a great argument given he's doing historic things that have never been done. Winning matters less than ever before in the MVP narrative today. They've already set a precedent giving it to a 6th seeded Jokic and a 5th seeded Westbrook in the past handful of years

I'm pretty plugged in to NBA and I haven't heard the media stuff you're talking about. I stand by my prediction and I guess we'll see how it goes.

The “knock” on Tatum from the fan and media perspective for the last year or so (and only got louder during the playoffs and Olympics) is Tatum lacks “aura” and isn’t tough enough. “Aura” darling SGA was seen pre game in a sports bra…

One of JT's strengths is he does not care about stuff like that.

He's really just focused on basketball.

If he wins MVP the "knock" will go away.

He cares and he has said as much in interviews about wanting to be MVP and be the face of the league. I don’t think he was tricking us or has changed that much since. It’s not gone as planned, but we won a title partly bc of his sacrifice Joe had him and everyone else buy into so obviously being team oriented worked too. I don’t think there’s a high level player in the history of the league for say the last 20-30 years who doesn’t care about being recognized.

Here's the thing, if he truly wants to be MVP, why is he jacking up so many 3s?

He's saying all the right things, but what he does on the court is not wanting to be MVP.

And with all the commercials and endorsements he has, he's definitely recognized.

Players in NBA history who've played the most games per season:

1 Dennis Johnson: 91.43 games per season
2 John Havlicek: 90.13
3 Bobby Jones: 89.90
4 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: 89.85
5 AC Green: 89.44

6 Jayson Tatum: 89.43
Best mark: 100 games in 2021-22
Worst mark: 69 games in 2020-21
Seasons played: 7

A modern player finishing this high up on this ranking is quite impressive considering what teams do to rest their stars during the regular season these days, especially when it comes to star-level players. So Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum deserves much credit for ranking so high in this exercise. At the same time, that moreso has to do with the number of deep playoff runs Tatum and Boston have made in their time together, and the lower sample size on his career, because Tatum has yet to suit up in all 82 regular-season games in a single campaign. On the other hand, he already has five playoff runs in which he has played in at least 17 games, which really helps lift him up this ranking.

There are no other current players on the list, which goes all the way to Tommy Heinsohn at #39.
