I kinda like John Collins as a player - he's overpaid but he's also young and good.

The thing I struggle with is the fit - we have 4 needs at the PF position :

1. Size - which Collins brings
2. Spacing - He can shoot but he's not really a shooter, always on low volume.
3. Defense - he has the size and athletic ability but never been a good defender.
4. Creating - he's not a creator for himself or others - can only finish plays.

So in terms of talent he's very qualified, but his fit is very questionable.

What we really need is a bigger, better HighSmith.
Collins is just a very different type.

Isnt Collins a poor defender? Im not sure we can handle too many minus defenders as we have a few logging heavy minutes already.

That would be DFS but that ship may have sailed. Vucevic checks 3 of those boxes although I don’t think we need a creator at that position but the more the merrier.

Could always pivot from Schroder/DFS to Cam Johnson/DFS if we’re going to go with a no PG starting lineup like the current one that is 8-2.

The NBA cup.

But yeah, the schedule is a momentum killer for a team on a win streak. After tomorrow game, it would another 3 days off before the next.

Collins would be great. A poor man's Kevin Love from an offense/rebounding standpoint, but everything Miami fans could hope Jovic turns into. Collins would also work as great insurance in case Bam had to miss extended time. No way Collins could replace what Bam does defensively or even in terms of his high post work, but Collins can get you ~20-10 and can extend defenses as well as Bam can. Collins is having his best shooting season, but he is a career 36% 3pt shooter and has shot closer to 38% the last ~5 years on 3+ 3-pointers per game.

Not worse than Love or Jovic.

Jovic surprised with some of his defense last game. He had some legit rim protecting plays. Made me happy.

Jaime gained some late hype in that draft and he projected as a Heat culture older prospect ready to contribute now type pick with capped upside. He’s a solid attachment player to Rozier trying to upgrade for a ready now vet. Maybe Collins is that player. I would probably try and offer Jovic first though in trade due to his contract coming up sooner than Jaime.

Interesting, what would you take be prior to this season? We’re talking about a guy who was like 3rd or 4th best for his class on a cheap deal.

I’m down on Jaime and thought I’d be down more than most as I remember people on here last year saying he would average 25 PPG one day and all this other nonsense

Lol, no sane person expected Jaime to average 25 ppg! Butler has never averaged that!!
His game was similar to Jimmy and in a couple years when Jimmy retires or moves on, some people expected Jaime to duplicate Jimmy's production (regular season, not the playoff Jimmy, ofc)

I still think if he gets featured more, he can put up better numbers without hurting the team. Hate to throw him in a trade if we cannot bring in a better talent
