So we are at the Bargaining stage of grief over Schroder's trade value still it seems. This was always the most logical return if anyone took an honest look at how the NBA has valued Schroder in the past and what teams usually pay for this type of vet. 23 games of better play doesn't affect a guys value that has played in almost 800 games already.

But otherwise, a report of a team not giving you the value you demanded doesn’t then corroborate that your player was worth that piece. In fact, it corroborates your guy WAS NOT worth that value, because they asked for him, and were specifically turned down.

This trade was about Schroder’s trade value. We know that, because he was traded for the maximum value they could get right now.

So close to getting the point, one more try to see if you can get there. Is this a common time of year for teams to make trades? Why do you suppose the Nets made this trade right now?

It really doesn't seem that complex. The Nets were asking for a 1st for Schroder, according to reports. At the same time, Schroder was helping them win too many games in a season where most agree they want to tank in order to maximize their draft position, which means moving him asap was a priority. Getting a maximum desired return for Schroder was not compatible with dealing him as early as possible to maximize the tank. The outcome indicates which priority was more important to the Nets rather than indicating Schroder's potential maximum return.

exactly right. and i'm not even sure they ever asked a first for him, scotto had reported a 2 second round pick asking price last week, which was a few days after they beat the pacers to move to 10-13 and in the following game played the bucks tough behind schroeder posting 34/11. i would imagine that was the moment they put it out there that they were ready to deal as soon as the clock hit 12/15 for whatever they could get.

per scotto it looks like they actually gave up the best 2nd in the deal (2025 miami) so the return indicates exactly what you said, the nets were highly motivated to move schroder asap and willing to do whatever they needed to do to get that done.

golly gee, why in the world would the nets be racing to give up the best pick in a deal for a guy who is an expiring contract?

i haven't seen anyone aggrieved at schroder's value in this thread. i have seen a bunch of posters apparently aggrieved about other poster's prior opinions on a message board, which serves no purpose except reminding those of us who dont visit this board all that often why that's the case.

I just see a few nets fan trying to jump threw some imaginary hoops to justify getting less than they think they should have. Even you on the nets forum when it was first announce something was happening you wrote "looks like Nets are either going to get another FRP or Podz but no Kuminga."

The TNT board can be a tough place if you are used to just an echo chamber of fans bidding up the value of their own players in their minds.

Nets fans: Schroder is worth a 1st or a good young player

Everyone else: I don’t think so, probably more like a couple of seconds

(Schroder gets traded for 2 2nds)

Nets fans: See! [convoluted explanation of how this somehow actually means he was worth more than he got traded for]

I don't know if it's the best 2nd in the deal. That's hard to evaluate. However, with the Nets already holding 4 FRPs and a higher SRP, it's understandable that they'd be interested in deferring picks. On draft night, I could easily envision them similarly dealing a '25 FRP for a future FRP.

Im not a Nets fan, but it does seem to me that GSW got a steal here. Or at least a very good deal. I would think that the bidding would have gotten a bit higher with other teams entering the discussion. I mean wouldn't the Lakers be willing to throw 3 seconds at at schroeder? Either no, or they just didn't have the picks salary that NJ wanted.

I would have expected 3 seconds or a guaranteed late first for him myself.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Schroder tried to start a fight with the Grizzlies after the game. That was the last straw, Marks had to get rid of him asap.

I admittedly don't know much about him, but Beekman is an undrafted rookie PG that seems to be putting up good numbers in the G-League. Does he hold hold 2nd round pick value given his G-League performance?

Of note, one of the Nets 2-ways very recently suffered a torn ACL, so Beekman replaces him.

Makes sense, Nets have lots of picks next year...
So, the price was 2 2nds and deferring a pick from 25 to 26...

There seems to be even more acrobatics here than usual.

Schroeder was never worth an FRP. I'd say getting 2 SRPs with an expiring is excellent value for the NBA journeyman and it's due to his great play this season.

So, are you saying that Brooklyn intentionally took less return than they could have gotten at this time? Or was this the maximum return possible at this time?

We could debate later returns, but I personally don’t believe that GS, or anyone else, would have paid more than double what they paid here to have Dennis for half as many games (or less) at the deadline.

im saying the bold. my big takeaway is that their primary motivation was trading him now and this happened to be the best offer they could get.

remember they didnt want to take back any salary since schroder is an expiring, so id imagine with all the contenders who cant take back salary there arent many expiring deals they could have taken back. by throwing in the miami pick this year i think they almost were trying incentivize GS to take schroeder now.

where his value could have been in the future if they waited, flip a coin. if he got hurt it could have been less if he didnt it could have been more. they got 3 seconds last deadline for royce oneale. i think it's a long shot they ever would have gotten a FRP for schroder but it's not hard to envision a lot of scenarios where they could have gotten more than they got here (almost nothing). i dont know phillys current needs/situation, but if they could have gotten the protections slightly improved on the 2026 philly FRP they already own that would have been way better than this.
