Sam played what was perhaps his best game against the Pistons. We know that he is a great shooter, but his defensive game is solid, and he was showing it against the Pistons. He smothered Cade Cunningham on a couple of possessions. It's nice to see that he brings more to the table than 3-point shooting.

slower start to the season for Sam is one of the only possible very-minor 'down' stories about the Cs so far this season, but I do believe that he's likely to start infusing the team with his championship DNA in the months ahead

defensively he's got good size, length, and balance
offensively he's really locked in the mid-range pullup, and generally seems to move the ball well

If ever the new owners decide they want to cut down on payroll but still win championships, the cheapest way to do it is to build around Sam.

EDIT: Come to think of it, it's the 2nd cheapest way. Cheapest would still be to build around Lonnie.

Sam can start for a bunch of teams in this league. His defense has gotten better, he's dribbling more and getting more comfortable driving to the paint. He's no different than a Duncan, Caleb Martin or Taurean Prince.

The C's win it again I want them to run it back for the dynasty label. I don't care about the cap or apron because I'm not paying any bills.

BUT...

If Stevens is forced to make a decision after this season to bring the cost down but at the same time bring in a quality young player+an asset, Sam IMO is very valuable for that move. He'll be making 10mil next year which is a great number to bring in a quality young player. I don't want to move Sam, but he does have value.

Here's another move to get Julian Champagnie to Boston for the 25/26 season:

C's get Champagnie, Spurs rights to Chicago's 25' 2nd and Spurs own 25' 2nd.

Spurs get Hauser and the C's 25' 1st.

C's free up 7mil plus the contract of a 25' 1st rd pick.

It’s nuts how good Sam Hauser has turned out. I think he’s 9th (edit: 10th incl. Austin Reaves, who also went undrafted) in his draft class in win shares despite being undrafted and 2021 being a great draft.
Sam is Brads best draft acquisition and even Brad couldn’t have had any idea of this impact… or he wouldn’t have risked losing out on Hauser to take Juhann Begarin with his 2nd round pick.
