The Figgins rumor is up and about again. The Cubs might be making a move for Figgins to play CF if the Angels sign Inge. And no, I"m sure the Angels will not be asking for ARam.

www.mlb4u.com

Kosuke Fukudome, RF--Chunichi Dragons: The Padres, who believe he can play CF, have offered at least 3 years, $36M. The Cubs have offered 3 years, $45M. One or two other teams may also be in the mix, but Fukudome is expected to choose between the Cubs and the Padres after meeting with them one last time in the near future. The Rangers, Giants and White Sox had also expressed interest. His agent told ESPN.com that it is highly unlikely that he will remain in Japan. The Dragons have offered him a choice of either a 1-year, $3.5M deal or a 4-year, $15M to re-sign, but Fukudome is not interested in returning. The Yomiuri Giants met with him. He has had mutual interest in playing for the Giants for a long time. The Hanshin Tigers offered him a 4-year, $18M deal before later deciding to drop out of the bidding. Fukudome wants no more than 3-year deal, after which he would become a free agent again.

Rotowire:
A source told Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown that Eric Gagne and the Brewers are close to a one-year deal.
Doug Melvin kept saying Derrick Turnbow was his closer, but there was good reason for not believing him. Gagne will almost surely claim the job with a strong spring, making Turnbow and David Riske setup men. Ideally, Riske would pitch the eighth in most close games.

I sure hope he plays like he did for the Red Sox. :-?

Have Roberts play SS. DeRo was our 4th best bat last season, there is no way he becomes the utility guy. Out of all of our starters Riot, Soto and Pie or the only borderline everyday players. The latter havent had a full season or real opportunities so we will see what happens. Riot has shown that he can be one of the best utility guys or a very avg everyday SS.

The Yankees are close to signing LaTroy Hawkins to a one-year contract believed to be worth approximately $3.75 million, sources told FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.

Even if Roberts is poor defensively, the offense he adds over Theriot is so much of a gap it still helps the team immensely.

He is small, but so is Orlando Cabrera at SS. He has more speed than Theriot as well, which can make up for his range. His fielding percentage has went up every year of his career with the exception of -.002% from 2005-06. He had his best statistical year at shortstop last year as well.

Edit- Just for more drools,

SS Roberts*
RF Fukudome*
1B Lee
3B Ramirez
LF Soriano
2B Derosa
C Soto
CF Pie

I dont understand whats funny about adding a all star infielder. If Theriot can pull off SS then Im sure Roberts will be fine.

Rotowire:
The Twins and Craig Monroe have agreed to terms on a one-year deal, avoiding arbitration, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
It's hard to figure out what the Twins are doing. Monroe was a bad fit in the first place, he became a worse one with the Delmon Young acquisition and he'd make no sense at all if the team traded Johan Santana and gave up on contending in 2008. That's not to say he's useless -- he makes a lot of sense on a contender as a starter against lefties and an adequate backup versus righties -- but for the Twins, he'd be quite a luxury at the $4 million or so he's likely to earn. He shouldn't be more than Jason Kubel's platoon partner in the DH spot initially.

Roberts is still a better option than Theriot at SS.

Derosa is a better option than Theriot at shortstop.

It seems like the Cubs made their splash and will probably sit back and wait on other teams before making another move. I imagine the two guys they are looking at are Figgins and Roberts. Angels won't move Figgins unless they get a 3B and Orioles will wait for Bedard, obviously.

I just say this because I think we might be sitting around waiting for something else to happen. Regardless, we got Fuku and that should hold down the fort for a while.
