He needs a better coach who's going to keep him on a tight leash so that he hits wide open WRs even for short gains.

First Take was talking about how the Bears might trade for a QB guru, like 2 FRPs for Kyle Shanahan, who's under contract for several more seasons to the 49ers.

Back in the day, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave the Raiders 2 FRPs and 2 SRPs and $8 million for Jon Gruen.

Start with that and the 49ers should talk.

I will say the one question mark that many had with him does seem to be a big issue.

In college he thrived on the off script extended plays. But he really wasn’t a stand out QB while playing within the system of the play.

And you’re kind of seeing that now. Each game he’s missing basic reads, and just missing throws. He doesn’t seem to trust himself to take a 3 step drop, then fire it to his first or 2nd read. And when he does, it’s not always accurate.

He falls back on the “time to extend the play and make something happen” way too often and too early.

As a USC fan, I knew there was going you be some refinement needed with his game and bringing in the back yard football in to some degree. But I didn’t think it was to this extent.

But the Falcons lost, out of the playoffs, losing 2 straight games.

Now they're saying it was a mistake to sign Cousins. No doubt but the Falcons needed pass rushers arguably more.

Then again, if Penix becomes a consistent Pro Bowl QB ...

Bears are said to be after a QB whisperer for Caleb. So they asked for permission to interview McCarthy?

Once the Lions playoffs run is over, you figure Johnson will interview.

While he does design those cute trick plays, the Lions offense dominates because of that OL. Goff has plenty of time to wind up and throw while his WRs eventually beat coverage and the RBs have big holes to run through.

They have their franchise QB now. But it definitely was a mistake to sign Cousins. Especially someone at his age coming off an Achilles injury. You had a top 10 pick in a deep QB class. There was no need to sign him in free agency. They could've signed a short-term stop gap in his place & still sat Penix to begin the season.

Not only was the Cousins signing a poor one, but I would not have hired Raheem Morris. He's a player's coach but wasn't known as a stud coordinator. His defenses have been very pedestrian. The Falcon's defense was fairly mid to poor this year as expected.

Atlanta could've had their pick of a handful of younger offensive coaches, like a Ben Johnson, to help groom Penix. Even someone like Mike Macdonald (stud D-Coordinator) would've been a better hire than Morris.
