De'Aaron Fox Loves Sacramento, Also 'Wants To Win'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Dec 18, 2024 1:34 pm

Sacramento Kings guard De'Aaron Fox was a recent guest on The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis. On the episode Fox and Green talked about a lot of topics, one of which was Fox's future in Sacramento.

"That’s where I’m at. I love the city, I love being here and I raised my family here. Would love to be here and retire here, how many people can say they played for one organization for their whole career? I also wanna win," Fox said. "They know I am going to give all I got, but at the end of the day the organization has also got to give all they got, that’s where we are right now."

Fox has this season and next season left on his contract. Despite being extension-eligible last offseason, the veteran point guard did not ink a new deal with the Kings. Fox will again be extension-eligible this coming offseason and could add an additional year to his deal this time around vs last summer.

"It all has to do with the team, the organization, where are we going. I want to make sure that we’re in a position to try and win in the future because that’s ultimately what I want to do. I know I’ll make enough money regardless of where I play or what I do, I’m going to be fine," Fox said about extending with the Sacramento.

The Kings points guard reiterated that competing for a championship is what really matters to him.

"Are we looking like we’re continuing to get better year after year and are we going to compete at a high level? That’s all mine is, if we could show that this year, you sign an extension now," Fox said about what he thinks about the timing of extending. "If not, I still have another year. But that’s where my mindset is: At some point will we be able to compete for a championship or compete at a high level for a long time."

Fox is very likable and all, but man - he plays like jon wall ( though he’s a better shooter ). He poisoned them by forcing out haliburton and causing them not to draft luka. “Want to win”, with the addendum - “want to win with me being the best player / franchise guy” - unfortunately the league is too good for that.

Haliburton had ONE good year, Sabonis is a way better fit in Sactown. Kings upgraded

Yes, the Kings upgraded with Sabonis.

I think what he was getting at is Fox's willingness to get paid like a guy that will lead a team to a championship but blame the roster around him when he falls short. Fox has an offensive rating of 112.5 (196th in the NBA). He has an AST/TO ratio of 1.8 (171st in the NBA). He needs to get in the gym; the team will go as he goes.

I don't really like Fox's stance that much, or being kind of non committal to the team but he has a right to leave and play for anyone he wishes. He definitely wasn't responsible for getting Hali traded. I think Kings wanted to move De'Aaron but Pacers wouldn't do it unless it was Ty. And he wasn't directly responsible for passing up Luka either, that was all Vlade's doing there.

Really like Fox's all around game now....I was a big critic of him 3 years ago when his 3pt, FT %'s were lacking, the defense wasn't there and he had a knack for prolonged, slow starts to the season. But he's really fixed a lot of these for the most part. The real issue is Monte hasn't been upgrading the roster properly the past 2 years, instead of getting, longer/big wings and guys who can defend and hit the 3...going after mainly dominant score first guys like Demar. It was a problem in 22-23 and he still hasn't got any bigger type SFs or a quality big man...and let Nemi go for nothing, over McGee & Len.

You should still really question his 3pt%. He's looking very Westbrook-like with his ups and downs from year to year... but without the consistent AST or REB. He's shooting 32% from 3pt again this season (177th in the NBA).

His rhetoric is so typical of today's players :banghead:
“And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission.” -V

Tough to hear from one of the 2 best players on a sub .500 team, but both things can still be true.

This the 1st season in more than 10 years since Sacramento has been in the top half of the league for payroll

You've gotta go all the way back to the year they had 3 coaches (Malone, Corbin, Karl) and 2 GMs (D'Alessandro + Divac) all in the same season.

And even then, their highest paid player was 0x All Star Rudy Gay -- by a wide margin -- Gay made 41% more than the #2 guy (Boogie)

Kings payroll ranking history:
2025 = 15th
2024 = 22nd
2023 = 23rd
2022 = 21st
2021 = 28th
2020 = 22nd
2019 = 28th
2018 = 24th
2017 = 18th
2016 = 25th
2015 = 15th
