Purdy is one years younger, has played 38 games, 67.3% completing, 59 TDs, 24 ints, 8.9 yards per attempt, sacked 65 times, 104.9 rating.

Or you want toolsy how about Anthony Richardson, the 4th pick of the draft last year, probably bigger and faster than Josh Allen.

In 14 games, Richardson has 50.1% completion, 10 TDs, 12 ints, only averaging 6.7 yards per attempt, sacked 20 times, 66.9 rating.

You can go back and look at more freaks who bombed in the league, Ryan Leaf, Jamarcus Russell.

Or how about Jameis Winston, the first pick of his draft class?

Not sure how fast he is but he's 6-4 230. 13 TDs and 12 ints this year. He forces passes, turns it over a lot. Averages 7.2 yards per attempt on 61.2% completion, 80.6 passer rating.

Career numbers are a little better but not much, in this his 10th season.

Physical tools are fine. You have to have brains though, as Brady showed.

That’s why you get a guy who has both. Look at the guys from this years draft alone: Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Caleb Williams, Bo Nix, Penix. All of them have better physical tools than Purdy, and the ones who have played look like they could develop into legit star QBs.

Do they? Jury still very much out on all of these guys, but Penix hasn't really played at all (though maybe he will soon). Williams has struggled lately, and has been playing a simplified scheme. Despite three legit WRs and a solid TE, he's lost eight consecutive games. His team hasn't scored 16 points in five of those games. Nix has been pretty hot and cold, and more cold lately. Maye hasn't shown much of anything to date. Daniels has been pretty promising, but it's early yet.

At this point, I don't think anyone other than Daniels clearly has more upside than Purdy.

Big Jackasss has a special eye for QB talent no one else has. That is why he saw all that talent Trey Lance has no one else has noticed thus far

They claimed that he was a top 5 guy who belonged in the same breath as Burrow, Lamar, Allen, and Mahomes because he had a few more playoff wins than some of them (even though guys like Jimmy G do too). I also want the team to win SB's, and I think we need an elite QB to do that, which is why I push back on Purdy the same way I pushed back on Jimmy.

No one objected to observations that Purdy has limited physical tools. He objectively does. They (myself included) objected to your claims that great QBs have to have elite physical tools, or that Purdy was worse than a guy like Lance who, despite really good physical tools, is obviously well behind Purdy in QBing ability.

In terms of top-5, again, most people making an argument along those lines were saying that Purdy might be able to get there some day. And he still might. As I have pointed out repeatedly, guys like Brady, Brees, even Montana were all top-5 in their primes (and for some time past their primes), but lacked special physical tools. But Purdy isn't there right now (it took Brady and Brees quite a while to become dominant passers, too, it's worth pointing out). Very good odds he never will be, particularly given the number of players who combine great physical tools with the mental aspects of QB play, but it was silly and premature (and still is, frankly) to say he's simply incapable of it.
Purdy demands 60 mil per yr contract is now out....will not accept home town discount!

The 49ers will pay him otherwise he will hold out during the off-season skipping practices until they finally pay him like Aiyuk and Trent, which his camp has learned all too well. And if that happens, he will be out of football shape and you know how that will turn out. Since you been acting like his agent, he will make sure they will pay up soon to get him into camp early, else the team will suffer the consequences of a hold out and risk injury which they can no longer afford. Everyone gets paid on this team, it's inevitable!

Without clicking on those, they don't look like terribly reliable sources. Let's wait and see what happens.

Why would Purdy accept less when impartial anaylsts knows he has played smarter and more clutch than Dak? Some players are just meatheads and not too bright.

So put them all together in a redraft, where do you think Purdy goes? My guess would be last.

I'd take that bet.

Purdy did go last the year he was drafted, and he's the only guy left with the team that drafted him.

He would easily be taken top 10 in a redraft but I would challenge him to climb the Hillary step before accepting his 60 mil per demands to test his bravery under extreme conditions.

Ruiz made a pretty compelling argument for bringing in Rodgers. Can't say I love it, but he actually is having a better season than Purdy per PFF.

Count me in the group that doesn't want to overspend on signing Purdy, but he is going to get what the market dictates.  Say what you will, but the young man has taken us to an nfc championship and a SB where he had Mahomes outscored.   That counts for a lot.  I just hope that he realizes it better for him to leave some money on the table to sign more talent around him.

That said, I would like to push back vehemently on a new term Grant Cohn has come up with, Purdatory,  meaning the niners could have a tough time if they pay him a lot.  But that wouldn't be his fault,  it's just the modern nfl.  Using that term on him would generate so much ill will between him and the fans that it could damage his psyche and game.  It sucks bigly and Cohn should drop it.

If he was put in last year's draft after the SB, I bet he would go top 3. The niners have enjoyed 3 really cheap year's with him and shouldn't grouse too much about paying him now.

I mean, if Purdy signs for $60 million and doesn’t deliver wins then it’s completely justified.

Sure, let's go with a dickish, trolling term that may damage our young qb's confidence and relationship with the fans. For a few more clicks. Sadly, in our modern world it may well catch on. I wonder if Cohn would take payments of only 75% of what he is selling?

I mean, if his confidence is that fragile I would argue that he’s not cut out to be a starting nfl qb anyway.

Its a dumb name because it makes no sense. Does he mean that the Niners will become the first team to be impacted by the market rate for QB's? Does he mean that the Giants are thrilled to continue paying Daniel Jones until 2026? Does he mean the Browns have tons of money to spend because Watson "only" has $230M in guaranteed money? And because their contracts are so 'cheap', there is no such thing as 'Dak-atory' or 'Tua-tory'? Or perhaps Cohn doesn't realize that the Niners are not the only team in the NFL that are subject to a cap and market conditions?
