90-85 is generous  a lot of those games were topping off at 75-68 at one point

The Pistons regularly held teams under 80.

The (real) Nets scored 56 against them in a Conference semi-finals game in 2004.

56

I loved those Piston teams and I don't care who knows it.

I hated them for obvious reasons but I respect the hell out of them. That was a team who you could put up against anyone in any era and they'd be tough.

You read my mind.

On this subject, i know people blame Steph for the way the game has evolved but I don't really think it's his fault. Steph can kill you at all 3 levels and his off ball movement is elite.

The analytics that tell coaches and players that mid range jumpers and post ups are bad shots have a way bigger role in my opinion.

Kevin Durant was arguing with some pundit on Twitter awhile back and I agreed with him: legislating the mid range out of the sport is asinine. Why pass up a clean look inside of the arc?

Brunson is an elite scorer and I think most of his damage is done off the dribble in the mid range/paint.

My favorite player and imo the Goat Brandon Roy was a master of the midrange!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The midrange is essential to the game of basketball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brandon Roy is one of the best basketball players I've ever seen play. Dude's IQ was off the charts. I'm hard pressed to think of a modern era player that is as crafty as he was.

I think that some of the younger people follow players and not teams. When you do that, you really don’t watch the game with the same eye or interest. Fans look for their favorite player to score, and they lose interest with the intricacies of the sport. I know someone who played overseas that I talk ball with. He’s a Durant fan, but doesn’t follow a team. It’s such a foreign concept to me, but I even see it here.

I see this a lot. Newer age fans could care less about teams and more about players. Kyrie fans are some of the worst people I've ever encountered :-?

The Jeremy Lin fans here were absolutely insane. Very aggressive and unwilling to discuss anything not pertaining to Lin.

Oh. Trust me, I experienced them first hand

There was some nice folks among them that I really liked, but like any player stan fandom there were some really deranged ass holes. Racist ones too.

Which is messed up because I like Jeremy Lin. He seems like a chill dude and i liked his game. I always remember how hard he would play on both ends. He never took plays off.

Ha. The Knicks were out of the game then so I could appreciate them on neutral ground. If anything, they were a stand in for those 90s teams for me.

What is going on with these rest days this year? Feels like every week we have a night without games. Adam Silver actually integrating the demands of these soft ass new generation games without actually saying it out loud!!!

Being a fan of a Thibs led team, I welcome this. Especially as we are getting our bench back and multiple players have been dealing with bumps and bruises all season. I am pretty sure we play every other day for the rest of the season basically. A couple of 2-3 day breaks lightly sprinkled in there. There's 4 months left before the playoffs begin. We need all the rest days we can get.

Honestly you have to tip your cap to Dumars for assembling that team

Defenders at all 5 positions

Billups, Prince, and Sheed all could hit 3s at a decent clip for those days

Rip was super effective in the mid range

Ben Wallace was a menace

Well, I wouldn't go that far  I've watched Michael Jordan play in real time.

I put Roy in that same tier with Penny and Grant Hill. Guys who were clearly going to be all time greats but got railroaded by injuries and played at a time where injury treatment wasn't as advanced as it is now.

Yes its good for us but no games at all? Hell, give me Pistons Wizards if you want. I mean who cares about damn NBA cup, Emirates cup, In season tourney or whatever its called. You have the "final" and then another day off after that? What is this bs.

Players should be stripped their power. This is 100% their doing, its just done offline so the people dont get mad

I don't put much stock into PG defense. These guys can't defend each other and the guys that can usually aren't good enough to be starter level PGs.

Unpopular opinion, I think the 2004 Pistons had enough juice to play the Bad Boys even or beat them.

I think this is better than teams having to play a ton of back to backs and then punting the tail end game.

Those 80s/90s era Pistons team always had good depth, adding in John Salley or James Edwards and others.

And Isiah Thomas is one of the least appreciated superstars of all time, as a player.

I'm giving the edge to the older team, but not by a lot.

Yeah Zeke is the best player for sure between the two groups. People forget how much of a beast he was especially barely being 6 feet.

Billups to me was criminally underrated too.

I'm trying to remember who the Pistons 04 had on their bench without looking it up, and i can't. So yeah, I guess the Bad Boys win by depth.

On one last 04 Pistons related note, do a YouTube search for Sheed talking about how gutter Darko Milicic was. Hilarious

They're kind of similar teams in some ways. What I like about the 2004 Pistons in this matchup is they have the piece to stop the head of the snake AND a guy who can bully Laimbeer back. But do they have enough offense? Sheed's performance makes or breaks the series IMO.

Also, I looked up the Pistons stats from that year and was stunned they were only taking 12 3s per game. Near the bottom. I guess Rip didn't shoot as many as I figured. A lot of long twos. That team had the personnel to do a lot more damage with the long ball.
