LAL improves

Post#1 » by dcstanley » Thu Dec 19, 2024 7:03 pm

Three separate trades-

LAL in: Davion Mitchell
TOR in: Christian Wood, Jalen Hood-Schifino, LAC 2025 SRP, LAL 2027 SRP

LAL in: Dorian Finney Smith and Dayron Sharpe
BKN in: D'Angelo Russell, Max Lewis, 2028 pick swap, 2025 LAL SRP, 2030 LAL SRP

LAL in: Collin Sexton
UTA in: Rui Hachimura, Jaxson Hayes, lightly protected 2029 LAL FRP

LAL rotation:
Sexton/Mitchell/Vincent
Reaves/Knecht/Christie
DFS/Reddish
LBJ/Vanderbilt
AD/Sharpe/Koloko

BKN and TOR trade rotation players for expirings and draft capital, the Nets get a potentially valuable swap from the post LBJ/AD era. UTA trades a steady guard for a FRP and a player they could potentially flip down the road. All three teams embrace the tank.

LAL in: Dorian Finney Smith and Dayron Sharpe
BKN in: D'Angelo Russell, Max Lewis, 2028 pick swap, 2025 LAL SRP, 2030 LAL FRP

This might work.

A 1st, a 1st swap and 2 2nds for DFS and Sharpe seems like a crazy high evaluation of those 2.

I think Brooklyn should take a swap 3 years out for DFS. And take a couple seconds for Sharpe.

Looks good.

I like all three value of the OP. No idea if Toronto has fallen in love with Mitchell or not. But they should do their deal.

That’s crazy.

Maybe if you were taking on bad contracts also but DFS and Sharpe aren’t pulling expirings plus all that.

Lakers could do much better with that package

If Sharpe and DFS are not getting one legit 1st they will not be traded together obviously. Sharpe is on an unreal team friendly contract and has not shown everything he can do yet.

DFS is super important for any playoff team. Max Lewis? DLO? They are not helping the Nets cause now. 2nd round picks are not worth much to BK. We have too many.

For TOR:

I'm not in love with Davion, but I see the trade as 4 nickels/dimes for Toronto's quarter. Pass.

You can pick up players/assets of the level of Wood/JHS/SRPs pretty much anytime for almost nothing, especially if (like Toronto) you have financial wiggle room under the tax line. OTOH, Mitchell fills a need at backup PG, might be worth retaining if the extension price is fair, and the alternatives at backup PG aren't anywhere close to proven.

Did he sign an extension I don’t see?

Looks like he is an expiring RFA. What’s unreal about that? Theres usually like 15 or more every year?

These all seem reasonable. Not sure LA ends up good enough for what they spend, but each deal seems okay. I really like this OP.

When an RFA is on a team and the team and the player want to stay together, and that player has not proven his worth fully yet, what usually happens?

Yeah, I mean I don’t think Mitchell holds much value. He’s a 26 year old pending RFA that looks like he should be a backup.

And the trade only improves the Raptors ability to go get more assets using their tax space since the duo combine for only 500K more than Mitchell.. so it’s just two seconds on top of the other seconds Toronto can get. And they aren’t terrible seconds..

And Toronto should be tanking and a good way to do that is to give the rookie guards more minutes and see what happens versus keeping Mitchell as a known-but low bar

Sharpe has 1 year left at 6M after this right?

I think a 29 1st with some protections, like to 8-lotto protected (can haggle back and forth) and salary for DFS and Sharpe is fair

But are you guys fine with taking on longer term salary? Could add 1-2 2nds if needed depending on the salaries

Rui and Hayes works salary wise

Other option is Vando and Vincent, but we throw you some 2nds as well as the 1st. Can take back filler like Milton/etc if needed

Trying to also work with Chicago to go and get Lonzo wil Dlo and JHS/Hayes/Cam. They get 1-2 2nds and expirings for Lonzo

If we cant work on a deal with both DFS and Sharpe, then the option is Dlo and 2nds? Similar to what you got for Dennis

But you have claxton blocking Sharpe and Clowney competing with him for minutes so i'm not sure how much he really wants to stay w/ Nets?. i think he would try to look for offer sheets to maximize his income. At least thats what his agent should do

What usually happens? The market sets his price in free agency and the player usually takes the best offer.

But simplifying RFA down to your team’s backup center is probably not a good thought exercise really.

…sometimes guys take the qualifying offer and have no value at all. Sometimes guys get good offers that your team is willing to match and you end up happy together. Sometimes guys get overpaid and your team losing him for nothing or end up matching out of desperation.

I don't think Sexton is worth Rui, 1st and expiring filler.

Rui and Sexton are pretty close to same player impact wise, I wouldn't give up a first in that deal if I was LA tbh.

Yeah I was going to say that Rui+SRP for Sexton is most I'd give. Rui is similarly an efficient scorer and stays efficient in the playoffs. Sexton certainly worth more for the creation but not a ton more because of size difference.

Anyway, I think only the Brooklyn deal makes sense to me.

Seems like you just get rid of the protections on the 27 pick and do Rui for Sexton in that case.

Yeah that fits.

Lakers get Sexton, DFS, Sharpe

Nets get DLo, Hayes, LAL28swap, 2xSRPs

Jazz get Rui, remove protections on LAL27FRP

Sexton, Reaves, DFS, LeBron, Davis
Vincent, Christie, Vando, Wood, Sharpe

As soon as I read the first post, I knew some iteration of the 2nd post was coming... I'd probably move the Utah pick protection from "light" to "moderate" (top 6 to 8 protection, maybe?), as I think Rui isn't far off the same level of player as Sexton now, albeit with a less in-demand skill-set. But all in all, pretty solid.
