Robert Williams to NYK

Post#1 » by Hatrick Ewing » Fri Dec 20, 2024 12:24 am

To NY:
Williams

To Por:
Hukporti
Matt Ryan
Sims
2nd RP

Why for NY? Get a Center, albeit an oft injured one, for guys who for the most part aren't in the rotation.

Why for Por? Get a possible young piece in Hukporti and Robert Williams might unfortunately have the most unreliable games per year average so can't imagine there's a massive market for him.

Pass for POR.

Looking for picks, not bench fodder.

The math ain't math'ing. New York is over the first apron. They can't take in more salary than they send out.

The Knicks already have a high-quality defense-first center with health concerns. They don't really need another one.

Robert Williams makes our fragile high-quality defensive center look like an iron-man.
RIP magnumt--you're literally why I'm still here on these boards.

No interest from Portland. Dadiet as the main piece back is much more intriguing than a C. But also, nowhere close to being a legal trade.

Man, at least use savings as the rationale for Portland rather than acting like a 58th pick who has done nothing to raise his stock has value. This is an easy pass for Portland.

It’s not legal as NY is taking back more salary than they send out, so they’d be hard capped at the first apron. Basically, NY can’t put together a package to match salary with Robert Williams, and have enough space under the hard cap to fill out the roster without sending Mitchell Robinson or a higher salary out. Achiuwa/McBride aren’t enough, and everyone else is a minimum salary, so they won’t be clearing any extra space to backfill those spots and get up to the minimum if 14. They can’t cobble together a deal where they send a bunch of cheap guys for a higher salary this year. They’d have to send a Mitchell Robinson or a Josh Hart.
