Re: That Game Was a Bunch Of Bull! Loss vs CHI 12/19
Most people including Celtics fans didn't even recognize/appreciate how historic last season was in terms of dominating competition. Now they expect the Celtics to replicate last season like it's easy to come up with a top 5 all-time type of season lol.
And FWIW, Cs still have an outside shot to do that if they can just get their act together on defense (1st half vs. the Bulls was really, really good). Not something worth chasing though since the goal is still to be fresh and ready for the postseason.
This season is currently 5th best in franchise history in terms of SRS with lots of basketball to be played.

By this time last season, we've had lousy losses to the Pacers, Magic, and Hornets in OT. But revisionist historians will tell you otherwise.
C's need to improve their defense. And their starting five need to shape up. C's coasting while opponents treat games like they're the playoffs. That's my main takeaway. And even with less than 80% effort, we've won nearly 80% of our games.
They have had a lot of duds this season. Their shooting is down and they’re gonna set a record of 3 point attempts at this rate. 14 for 56 from 3 lol. Nuff said.
Letting Lavine get 36 points tonight was also a factor..
He hit some very difficult shots, but the defense to begin the fourth quarter was atrocious.

Celtics have also been generating more wide open and open shots this season in terms of frequency compared to last. (Which means offensive process has been good.) They just need to make more of them like they're capable of doing.

The LaVine threes with a hand in his face, you can live with. Those aren't sustainable in a 7-game series. Having no one stop the ball over and over for uncontested layups was unacceptable.

Their chucking up wayyyyy too many threes during a game and when it's not falling, we're barely seeing any adjustments. At some point you need to flip the script and mix it up! Thats how the Warriors sustained longevity. They added to the roster when necessary and didn't just chuck threes the entire gameeeeeeee

If that were true then the Cs should have lost Game 2 of the finals.
The defense was the problem in this game.
You didn't see all those layups by the Bulls in the 4th?

KP had 20 pts and the Cs won the points in the paint, 44-42.
So it's not like the Cs did not try to score inside.
It was that lineup that started the 4th that turned a 4-point Celtic lead into a 9-point deficit.

14-56 on 3's man, that's not basketball and yes the defense was soft as heck last night. Maybe they played a little too hard on the ten day Hiatus lol. Obviously it's just a reg season game but we really haven't seen a strong game on both ends since the Clippers game last month.

so we all agree: blow eet up
get someone who can hit some good old fashioned 2s, like Vucevic
basketball like it was when OUR DADS taught us the game!!
OR -- and this is just speaking off the dome -- maybe play more than once every 6 days and you'll be in a better rhythm
all I care about is another banner
last year I wanted an epic differential, and came into this year harboring hopes they'd make a run at 70 wins, but **** it get to the postseason healthy and let the Cavs provide some motivation to keep showing up and winning games so you can hopefully have HC
don't honestly care about anything else, even my stock portfolio and wife and kids? eh. just want that B2B title!

That's why it's inevitable he gets traded.
It's a waste of money and it's a waste of a roster spot that would be better off given to a guy like Lonnie.
I thought he looked decent last night
good hustle, generally good defense, in the right spots on offense and took two shots (0-2)
if he were a vet min guy instead of a $4M guy taking Walsh's minutes, I might be interested

He was decent esp for someone who hasn't played a single minute with the main rotation guys.
Would've preferred Joe not using him again in the 4th though. 4th Q was winning time. Can always experiment with lineups in 1st 3 Qs.

Yeah but Joe usually always goes 8 deep, even in the 2nd half..He was only in there for like 3 and a half mins in the 4th quarter.
It's only December. I'm fine with a little experimenting this time of year - even for the first 3 mins or so of the 4th quarter vs a lottery team..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Bulls went on a 15-4 run in those very costly 4+ minutes. Game turned in those crucial non-JT minutes. C's already at a disadvantage starting the 4th with JT sitting on the bench. Compounded it with playing Springer alongside 3 other guards. Got beat in every aspect in those 4 minutes.
Joe might have said in the past he's 70-30 in terms of trying to win the game vs experimenting in the reg season. Just wish the 30% was used exclusively in the 1st 3 Qs. We still want to win the game.
This same thing happened vs. Cleveland last season (the infamous Dean Wade game). Just weird lineups to start the 4th. Ultimately, the loss could mean nothing and Cs could catch up with the Cavs in the standings. But it could also mean not having HCA at later rounds in the playoffs.

Yeah some people on this board think this is good . It’s not. They’re on record pace to break a record. Over 50 attempts per game is ridiculous.

When Boston can’t hit threes, this is the result of 99% of the time.
The game is becoming hard to watch. They need to move the 3 point line further back or something...

Re: That Game Was a Bunch Of Bull! Loss vs CHI 12/19
I wish people wouldn't judge 3 point attempts by the amount but rather by their quality. How many of the 3 pointers attempted were considered good looks? How many came after a nice drive and kick? How many were just taking the first semi-open look early in the shot clock? Were there any back door cuts in the play? How many 3s had NO ONE even inside to rebound. How about almost never bring the ball up, not make a single pass but instead make a pullup 3 attempt?
Sometimes quality looks still do not drop. It happens. But for the most part, the higher the quality of the look, the better the odds of making them.
Boston really needs to improve the consistency of their Quality.
Also really believe Ball movement = energy. Lack thereof drains energy. That seems to me the biggest cause of our defensive lapses. No energy. Not lack of ability.

Save the best for last, just like last season.
If you truly believe they will shoot 50 3s in the playoffs then they have you fooled.
Right now they're still on pace for 60 wins.
So I don't see why it's a big deal when it's a given the Cs will lose more or less 18 games this season.
I think this team deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Agree.
If he has the same salary as Walsh then he's worth keeping.
