Re: Dylan Harper
I think Harper is the top pick right now. I definitely get some SGA vibes. His shooting off the dribble is a concern but he shoots 81% from the line so i suspect he will figure it out.
The last two games teams have just doubled him to prevent him from driving and carving them up. Spacing in college is a lot worse than the pros so the lane is harder to navigate but if you put one man on Harper he will find a way to the rim.
I don't like the Harden comp. Harper isn't a flopper trying to bait the refs. He gets fouled a lot because one man cant guard him.

Interesting info in the first segment of this vid. Apparently Dylan is doing very well shooting off the catch but really struggles on pull ups.

Funny that Harper's big weakness so far has been his pullup j then he does that.

I am just curious, if we could take Harper and send him back in time and drop him in the 2023 draft. How would we compare him to Scoot Henderson at the time?

I think a bit better than Scoot bc of the size, but not super far off would have been my evaluation.

Re: Dylan Harper
I think Harper is the clear #2 prospect right now; you can justify him being #1 over Cooper, but I can't personally place him over Cooper based on Olympics play. Having anyone else at #1 is simply not justifiable.
Harper has a pro style game. If you want him as a point forward; he is going to be a little small. But as a jumbo point guard or combo guard, his 6'4" size is not going to be an issue at all. His 6'10" wingspan is going to be great at any position. He is playing well with no visible warts on a bad mid-major level P5 team. Has great advanced stats and counting stats. Basically close to no red flags. He is even a younger than the average OAD given he is a proper aged kid for his school class.
What I have been thinking is about is what is the % probability that Kasparas Jakucionis ends up being Harper? Their style of play is different, but I think there is a sizable chance that Jakucionis ends up better than Harper? We talking about a 1/3 chance here? Jakucionis is clearly gonna be a top 5-6 pick come draft night.

there are red flags or at least yellow flags. He's not in incredible shape. His jumper has a weird low push to it. Plus he's not a great defender. I think offensively he's clearly a lead point guard. He's not an elite one though. I think just a shade under guys like Fox, Trae, and Ja. Probably in the same tier as Garland but certainly better than anyone out of the last few drafts. I think Jakucionis isn't in the same vicinity. I can see Harper starting Day 1. Jaku is probably going to be treated like the 2024 point guards and fight for minutes behind vets and other young players. It depends on the team I guess. I was much lower on Reed than 95% of you and I think he's a similar prospect to him.

I think KJ will shoot a lot more 3s which will help him a lot. Also think KJ is a better defender.

This is where I'm at.
If you see Harden in him (I do) you don't even think about Flagg.
It's not like I'm thinking about Flagg and passing because I don't like what I see.
I just see Harden in Harper so I literally don't even think about Flagg. I guess the folks adamant about taking Flagg #1 either don't see Harden in Harper or they see someone in Flagg who's better than Harden.

Flagg is not better than Harden, nor is Harper Harden.
Flagg's chances of becoming a Garnett/Kirilenko/Banchero mix is better than Harper's chances of becoming Harden.
I figure (out of ass) Flagg only has 1/3 shot of becoming Harden or better.

That's not how drafting and scouting works. Just because you see traits of a superstar in a prospect doesn't mean that prospect will end up being just as good as said superstar. Not by a long shot. The odds of pretty much any prospect to end up being an MVP level player are quite low to begin with, and comparisons are mostly about style and archetype rather than likely outcome in terms of impact.

I know how drafting and scouting works.
But Harper looks super similar to Harden and the NBA scouts per ESPN are comparing him to Harden. I saw it before ESPN released the prevalent scouting views.

Kinda reminds me of Fultz as a prospect (that’s a compliment, Fultz was a great prospect and worthy #1 pick)

I understand the alternate view but I think a prime Harden is also pretty hard to stop with or without the foul baiting, personally.

Re: Dylan Harper
We are getting closer to draft night, looking harder at players now and thinking more critically.
Is it possible his game doesn't translate. If anything his game has benefitted from him being more physically developed than college players and the lack of real size/length providing any type of rim protection.
If he doesn't become a solid shooter, than can get some separation in the mid range, does his game really translate that well?
