CJ's contract will make the Raptors a tax paying team next year.
So major incentive

Way too much IMO
I think that McCollum is close to neutral value. Most of the value that Detroit would give to trade for him would be taking on the extra salary (some this year, $30M next) so i wouldn't want to give up draft compensation, a rookie or a young rotation player
As an example
Hardaway + Beasley ($22.2M, then expire) for McCollum ($33.3M, $30M)
works on spotrac
This trade saves NOP $11.1M this year and $30M next year. If DET can save NOP a total of $41M is salary, I honestly wonder if the extra compensation shouldn't be going in DET's direction instead of towards NOP. I definitely wouldn't want to throw in a draft pick or Klintman on top of that.
Beasley>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Klintman and a 2nd. That's an insanely bad trade for detroit. The guys top 10 again in 3's made and shooting 41% from deep.
I agree that Beasley is playing great, and is more valuable than Klintman + SRP. However, Beasley is expiring, I doubt he's with us next season, and I don't think DET has much reason to try to win on the efforts of its vets like Tobias/THJ/Beasley anyway.
But my major point is that DET should be mostly targeting trades where we leverage our financial flexibility to pick up assets, and I'm just not OK with taking back extra salary as well as sending out pick or rookies. We absolutely shouldn't be giving assets in "win-now" moves IMO.

Take out the 2nd and Klintman then. Pelicans should be motivated to just dump his contract.
THJr+Moore for CJ saves them $30million next year!
Or if they want Fontecchio instead of Moore
Or Paul Reed
Or Sasser
I personally have no problem using a 2nd and Klintman to make the deal as I don't see either being a big deal but I understand some people's concerns trading future "assets"

With Ingram on the way out, the Pels cap situation is not dire. I think they’d keep CJ over dumping him for nothing. Unless an Ingram trade brings back long term money the Pels are at $157M with 10 players under contract for next season.
Don’t see the Pels dumping CJ to make space for free agency considering that we almost always have to overpay to lure free agents.

Cavs bring CJ home to NE Ohio for a title run and all they give up is an expiring in LaVert (who would probably be bought out by NOP), a bad contract in Max Strus, and picks (or non-rotational prospect).

Right, but keeping CJ limits the Ingram trade return for only expiring contracts or letting him walk in free agency. If they have an Ingram offer that includes taking back multi-year contracts (like MPJ), then clearing CJ for expiring contracts only make a lot of sense.
