He’s an average defender, in my opinion no worse than Donte. Thibs seems to be a big fan of his and likes the pairing of Payne, Deuce, Shamet in preseason and training camp so they can push the tempo more.
Fully expect him to be in the rotation.

If he has anything close to a Cam Payne like impact it will be a nice addition to a squad that sorely needs better quality depth.

Re: Shams: Landry Shamet Is Back
from ESPN:

Knicks bringing back
veteran guard Landry Shamet
The New York Knicks have agreed to a deal with guard Landry Shamet, his agent George S. Langberg of GSL Sports Group told ESPN on Sunday.
Shamet had signed on with the Knicks in September but was waived after suffering a dislocated shoulder in a preseason game. He was considered a lock to make the regular season roster prior to the injury.
Now fully recovered, Shamet returns to the team. He played over the last week for the Knicks' G League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks, averaging nearly 11 points per game.
Shamet has averaged 10.8 points in 22 minutes per game and has shot 38.4% from 3 over his six-year career.
New York coach Tom Thibodeau spoke highly of the guard multiple times throughout training camp, highlighting the ways he would fit in with the club.
In particular, Thibodeau said he valued Shamet's prior experience playing with Mikal Bridges and Cameron Payne -- who both joined the Knicks this summer.

Matt Ryan had to be the worst 3pt specialist I've ever seen. See ya bud.

The moment the bench can't find their rhythm 3 minutes in, Thibs is gonna put the starters back in.

Can’t lie, I’m pretty skeptical about Shamet as a backup 3. I think he doesn’t have the size.

Re: Shams: Landry Shamet Is Back
Any added playable depth is welcome. Hopefully it reduces some of the minutes for the starters but I hope he hits the ground running or Thibs might give him the Matt Ryan treatment. Grand opening, grand closing. I wonder what his role will be. I can't always tell who Thibs actually likes in the rotation.
I remember when we all thought Hart's minutes would go down after the Detroit trade and then after OG returned and then after OG and Mitch returned but he just continued playing 40+ the entire second half of the season.

In the preseason he had great chemistry with Payne.

Its all relative. Who's our backup three now? Dadiet? I think Shamet will give us more than him right now.

Re: Shams: Landry Shamet Is Back
I expect him to be in the 10-15mpg range, while I don’t love his height as a 3, he is a strong and tough player so we’ll see how often he’s out there with Cam and McBride.
I can’t wait to get Mitch back so we can see our real depth and how Thibs adapts because we’ll have 9-10 experienced rotation players

The Knicks must think he's a demon
They brought him back after a dislocated shoulder, but didn't bring back an All Star with the same injury...
