Indeed. Alex a problem for the league and he's easy to make room for. Thankfully, the Lakers didn't value him. He never needed to leave.

He's still only 22 but yeah if he never develops a 3PT shot or competes on defense it's hard to see him sticking as a starter in this league. Michael Carter-Williams sort of had the same problem did everything but nothing really well.

There is still time for Giddey but it's running out once he gets older teams will lose patience and stop trying to develop his game then the playing time just won't be there

It says something about OKC's front office that they traded a 22 year old, former #6 pick, for a good role player while still building a good team.

Most teams hang on to their lottery pick and don't move on as soon as they did.

By the end of this deal (the last 2 years) Caruso will be making slightly more than the MLE. I’d rather pay Caruso the MLE+ than whatever bad contract Giddey (who isn’t good) is going to get.

Caruso is a good player, but it made sense for the Bulls to move on. I just wish they got picks or something other than Giddey.

Hopefully they don't overpay him in the off season (Giddey that is).

I agree it made sense to move on. Didn’t like Giddey being the return given that he’s due for a new contract and they might get bird rights trapped.

Nope, Bulls should've traded him to us for both of our FRPs last year...

I wonder if they would have moved on from Giddey so soon, and for such an unexciting return, if it wasn't for the pedo stuff.

You can't be serious. Do you have any idea as to how great Caruso has been on defense for OKC this season?

Stop thinking pts/g, reb/g, and ast/g are all there is to determine how good a player is. Stats.nba.com shows Caruso is currently the best shot defender (37.7% FG% allowed) among the league's guards, and he also has the 2nd highest per minute steal rate in the league (4.2 ST/48min) next to only Dyson Daniels.

Giddey >

He may have been the only real thing to help slow down Luka tonight. He got Luka distracted and it helped Chicago.

I did it at the time and it's still true... This was just one of those trades where both teams got what they were looking for. Caruso is a great player to have , on a team that has stars on it and just needs strong role players. Doesn't do much for a young rebuilding team. For OKC, the better SGA got the more Giddey's role diminished. Perfect trade for both teams situations.

I laughed then though at how much of my fellow Bulls fans (as well as some general fans here) were ripping AKME for not extracting and bonus 2nd round picks from presti in that deal. We were already getting a good trade and Presti isn't a crackhead. We weren't getting picks on top

The trade was and remains a true win-win. OKC is a SERIOUS title contender, now, and Caruso does more to push then over the line than Giddey would. And the Bulls of course needed a future starting PG a lot more than they needed a deluxe glue player who might be the final piece for a contender.

Both sides should be happy.

this is not win-win.

it's win-win-win-win.

how fast the caruso extension went is really all you need to know about okc satisfaction with the caruso return. his epm is like 3.0 or something crazy in the limited role thunder has to offer.

giddey also got what he wanted. he's now playing for the max contract he wouldn't have in okc. he wouldn't even have a chance to play for a max since if he stayed he would play 6th man.

chi traded an expiring asset that doesn't fit their state of their franchise, since caruso works better on upper echelon of contention. got one of the brightest and most unique talents in the nba to develop. in 2025 nba draft i am sure there'll be older players than giddey picked in first round.

caruso, aged 30 and ever away from mega deals, got 80 mil in his bank before hitting market.

Great trade for both teams.
Josh Giddey averaging 1.2 steals per game has been huge for his career. Then he steals 8 last night. Career highs in his season average and in one game.

Neither side regrets this trade. I thought it was a steal for OKC at the time given Caruso's seamless fit and Giddey's role being likely diminished if he stayed on that team and I don't think they wanted to extend him either at the number he would have wanted. Credit to Giddey for the improvement and playing extremely well to make this a good trade for everyone involved.
