SAC / IND at it again at the deadline - win:win take 2

The Kings and Pacers both seem at a crossroads a good few seasons after making a blockbuster trade that seemed like a win-win.

This time, they both have opposing needs that can help match them as trade partners.

The Kings need to go back to what worked a few seasons ago and get better spacing and 2 way play around their core usage guys. They need to further acclimate DeRozan, and put Fox/Sabonis in more scenarios with even more spacing. Furthermore, they need to keep elevating Monk.

The Pacers need a bit of a shakeup and can use an upgrade at combo forward. They need a young talent that can be a second usage talent in units without Hali or Siakam and can initiate some.

Murray, Heurter, Lyles
For
Mathurin, Toppin, Walker

Why for Indy:
The Pacers were interested in Murray on draft night and he could really emerge in a higher usage role with the Pacers. He can start at the 3 and play their defacto backup 4 slot as well. Murray has more untapped potential and could emerge as a threat in Indy.

Huerter is a bit of a bigger wing and can add further spacing in units with McConnell. Lyles supplements the loss of Obi and has potential to even play some 5 alongside Siakam in units. He’s also expiring.

New look Pacers:
Starters: Turner/Siakam/Murray/Nesmith/Hali
Bench: Jackson/Lyles/Huerter/Nembrand/Mcconnell

Why for Sac:
Brown has been trying to turn Murray into a high volume small ball 4 for sometime and has netted mixed results. Just acquire that exact need in Obi. Obi at the 4 would provide extreme spacing for 3 of Fox/Monk/Sabonis/Derozan to flourish. Add in Mathurin who can either start at the 2 or be an extreme offensive, spacing option off bench. Mathurin gives the Kings an additional wing who can space and attack close outs some. Walker adds depth as a back up 5 and provides needed rebounding and D to second unit.

New look Kings:
Starters: Sabonis/Toppin/Derozan/Mathurin/Fox
Bench: Walker/Ellis/Monk/Carter

Derozan would also be defacto backup 4. Kings would run an 8 man rotation

I like the idea, biggest mystery is Walker valuation it can tilt thendeal to either side.

Dont see Sac netting both Mathurian and Jarace in this deal. Murray has lot a little bit of his luster, and Huerter sucks.

While I am in the trade Mathurin club as he doesn't seem to fit well in the Indy offense. This is too much for Indy to give up for Murray. Keep it simple and do a Mathurin for Murray swap. I don't have their values too far apart. If you think Murray holds way more then we pass.

Perhaps adding Walker is unnecessary. How about this turns into a 3 way:

To Pacers: Murray, Huerter
To Kings: Toppin, Mathurin, Time Lord
To Blazers: Lyles, Wiseman, protected 1st from kings, 2 seconds from pacers

i dont see how this make sense for Kings. Mathurin is not getting touches w/ derozan/monk/fox/sabonis ahead of him in pecking order

Huerter may be an inch or two taller than Aaron Nesmith, but Nesmith is still the “bigger wing” where it matters defensively.

I think Indy would consider Mathurin/Walker for Murray/one of the rookie contract guards, but would prefer to keep Obi as the bench F/C? He’s just a perfect fit with Haliburton.

This is kind of the bigger issue here? Feels like Mathurin would have the same issues in Sacramento he has in Indy?

He absolutely would have the same issues. Not only that, but the Kings would lose length in Murray.
