I like Castle as a prospect and I can buy that he will pan out to be a useful player, just as I project Carrington and Sarr to be useful players. What I don't understand is this general consensus that Castle is some sort of standout rookie. As far as I can tell, the only standout rookie is McCain. There's a bunch of other guys who are underwhelming right now but show potential to be useful down the road, including Castle, Carrington, Sarr, Risacher, Wells and Missi.
I don't have problem with Castle being ranked in the same tier as guys like Sarr, Carrington and Risacher, or even if someone thinks he has been a bit better. But he is not clearly head and shoulders above them all.
I don’t think they are saying that Castle is “head and shoulders” above those rookies ranked below him. But it is reasonable to rank him in the top 2 or 3, imo.
What Castle did well at UConn— defense, the ability to create off the dribble, physical toughness, and decision making—has carried over to the NBA.
As you point out, Castle has not shot the ball well. He will need to improve his shooting if he’s going to become an outstanding NBA player.
