Wizards and Lakers
Lakers: Russell, Vincent, Vanderbilt, Rui, top 20 protected first
Wizards: Kuzma, Brogdon, and Valenciunas
Lakers save a couple million and shake things up
Wiz shake things up, get a first

They wouldn't move Rui..
Think it would be DLo+Vincent+JHS+LAL28swap for Brogdon+Val

Eshh. That is terrible for the Wiz. You think getting Brogdon + JV for DLo + Vincent is only worth a potential swap in a half decade?!?
Not a chance.
Also, watching this Wiz team is bad enough... forcing me to watch DLo + Poole will have me buying a toaster and running a warm bath.

This looks too good for Lakers IMO. Pick protections should be lowered to top 10 or lottery.

We dont need to do this deal tbh, I have 0 interest really here
Val is a bad defender
Kuzma is a horrible 3 pt shooter
Brogdon is nice, but injury issues scare me a lot, not sure hes worth the upside. He is a slight upgrade to Dlo overall, but injries may be too much of a risk for what he can do for us

How? Lol. Lakers pay a first to get worse.
DLO and Brogdon are similar tier of players except DLO is far more available.
Kuz is a slight upgrade (if that) on Rui but a worse fit offensively
Zero interest in Jonas

Well neither Brogdon nor Val are worth an FRP. Maybe it would be 2nds if that's what you prefer?
Also, don't want to be one to tell you this but 2028 is 3 years away. Yes time flies.

Re: Wizards and Lakers

You do remember when the Wizards basically stopped playing Rui and gave him away to the Lakers. And now they trade three veterans to get him back? Eh?

Absolutely it's all its worth. Neither JV nor Brogdan hold any meaningful value. Vincent's contract is only a couple million more than JV's next year. And Russell is the best player in the trade.
I think getting a chance at an unprotected swap for players as meaningless as JV/Brogdon without having to eat much future money is exactly the kind of deal Washington should look for. Much smarter than the 3 total 2nds you might could get for them trading them for meh expirings -- if you could even get that.

Clearly lakers dont think russell is the best player in the trade otherwise why are they trading him for brogdon?

Re: Wizards and Lakers
If a for-sure 1st isnt included, Id rather WAS keep Val and Kuz than this. Theres no benefit to this trade.
If WAS was to make no trades all season, between their expirings and options they can decline, they could clear up to $50 mill cap space this summer if needed, so thats not a motivator for them I dont think. Val, Kuz, and Brogdon all have value beyond a single 2nd rounder if moved, and if not, theyre not hurting as vets on a rebuilding team on deals the team doesnt ever have to rush to move.

Great.
But am I wrong about what a home run that trade is for Washington?

No i agree with you its decent value for washington.
I think JV for Vincent = 3-4 2nds and russell to brogdon fetch another 1-2 seconds.. a future unprotected swap sounds about right

We can just close this thread. Its embarrassingly bad.
JV is an elite backup C averaging a per36 of 21 & 14 on a TS of 60%, despite being cold from 3 so far this year.
Vincent in the middle of a 2-year run as possibly the worst rotational player in the league. He doesnt score, rebound, or create... The guy has a 49% TS on 11% usage. I mean, is he any better than Bronny right now?
He is not even a CBA caliber player right now, and he is getting MORE money than JV this year and next...
The talent increase + taking on his salary next year is worth 2 top 45 2nds, minimum.
Brogdon is, and has been, better than DLo at everything having to do with basketball over the last 10 years. He is easily worth a top 40 pick for the upgrade.
So we are at 3X Top 40-45 picks in the draft to make the value right, and I think im being conservative...But somehow a protected 1st 4-5 drafts from now is too much?

Re: Wizards and Lakers
There is some underestimating what it will take to get off of Vando and Vincent's deals. If you are turning usable rotational players into non-ones with questionable contracts, value has to be found somewhere.

Are there still people clinging to the idea that Kuzma is a positive impact player...?
I don't think I've ever seen a player more about the lifestyle than him...

Re: Wizards and Lakers
The real value differential here is to trade Vanderbilt and Vincent (two marginal, unneeded players with bad contracts) for Brogdon (a real good, playoff tested player when healthy on an expiring deal). Given the combination of talent upgrade and salary savings, I think the value differential there might be worth the Lakers 2029 FRP. The protections can be generous (say, lotto protected) if the pick rolls over and conveys in future years, or it can be minimally protected (say, top 4 protected) if the pick obligation is extinguished if it doesn't convey in 2029 (because the Lakers are trying to preserve flexibility to make other trades involving future picks).
I'm willing to talk about expanding the deal to include swapping Kuzma or JV for some combination of Russell, Rui or Christie, but I don't really think there's enough value differential there to be worth any significant pick capital.
