'97 and '98 (Ewing, Houston, LJ, Starks, Oakley)

'01 could have beat the Raptors in a 7-game series, at the time it was only 5 games in the first round (Sprewell, Houston, Camby, KT, Rice, Mark Jackson)

I know Allan Houston caught a lot of flack for that 6 year $100 million contract, but he was so consistent for Ewing's last 4 years with the Knicks.

I have the Riley years as the best Knicks team I've seen. 97-98 miiiiight have gotten there but Ewing got hurt and was never the same.

This team is better than the Riley Knicks teams also

The fact that I'd even bring it up means I think they can be but they have to earn it before I say it outright. That team showed playoff mettle. This one should be able to but they still have to do it.

I truly hope we can retain Cam. But he’s probably playing himself into a pretty nice contract.

Looking at the numbers, Ewing did not have a legit #2 guy until Houston came on board

Starks did what he could but he wasn't the offensive talent that Houston was. It was just Ewing surrounded by overachievers. I would argue that the Van Gundy teams had more talent and god given athletic abilities around Ewing, so they had a higher ceiling.

His cast was better then but Ewing was substantially better earlier. Also, Harper was no slouch. He could and probably should have taken more on.

There's a number of delusional fans on Raptors board who think they won the trade.

Man we would have tried to convince ourselves of the same if we were in their shoes

Their core 5 guys are ages 21 through 25. They're not in a bad spot as long as they're healthy next season and improve.

Definitely some young talent there. Health has hurt them this season for sure. Oh well. Walt Frazier belongs with us now!! Fuq the Raptors!

so Thibs was an assistant on all the Knicks teams that ran a strict 8-man rotation for 5 straight years in the playoffs (1997 to 2001)

Maybe we will be lucky and he'll play 10 guys once he has Mitch and Shamet

Come playoff time though, we're only gonna see an 8-man rotation unless there's a blow out or the game is decided

It's all Thibs has known for almost 30 years since he first worked for the Knicks in 96

Other than Thibs seeming addiction to vet volume scorers, I wonder if the Knicks are interested in Clarkson because they aren't sure they'll retain Cam.

Actually, Knicks got mentioned by Ainge probably, to drive up the price on Nuggets or Lakers.

The fact that we are talking about this team in comparison to the early and late 90s Knicks team says everything

I haven't said it yet so I should here.

**** trading for Jordan Clarkson. If we trade for anyone defense and ball movement should be the goal.

When the starters have checked out mentally take them out.

Yes exactly. If the starters are gonna play like that, then why play them in the 4th…

I'm not too worried. There's going to be others, and Kolek is on the roster.

The one we're all going to be sad about is Miles McBride. He's the next Quickley. He deserves to go out and go paid.

Beyond that, our team's window is a bit dependent on how well we develop our rookies. If we develop Dadiet, Hukporti, and Kolek well, we'll be set.

True, Cam is a sweet luxury and the chemistry and dogged spirit is super nice. But ultimately we can probably squeak out a similar player somewhere else.

In other threads, I’ve mentioned Deuce. Hopefully we can creatively retain him. He could probably get something similar to Alex Caruso on the open market

Lakers are playing well lately though

Gabe Vincent is back to his Miami self

Max Christie is their new defender in the starting lineup

D'Angelo Russell is not a much of a liability coming off the bench

Clarkson shoots a high volume of threes at a low percentage. He already has history playing with Lebron in Cleveland and not hitting threes

If the Lakers trade for Clarkson, they'll likely also get someone else

For sure. I'm also not even mentioning those teams unless they actually do win.

Knicks have the core that makes role players look amazing. Let cam go get paid and bring in new mercenary ring chasers next year.

I dont mind a chucker off the bench but they need to play some defense too. Cam is a pesk.

Cam might not get much more money than the minimum. He has played on 7 different teams. He's a 30 year old journey man.
