Sacramento - Denver - Brooklyn
Sacramento trade: Derozan, Huerter
Sacramento receive: MPJ
Denver trade: MPJ, Saric, 2031 1st
Denver receive: Derozan, DFS
Brooklyn trade: DFS
Brooklyn receive: Huerter, Saric, DEN 2031 1st
Why for Sacramento: add some size and 3 pt shooting
Why for Brooklyn: eat salary to get a higher variance future 1st for expiring vet
Why for Denver: add a needed secondary creator and replacement 3/D forward
Should the 2031 1st have some protection on it?

No MPJ the best player in this deal and Denver is the one sending out a 1st?? Nope, pass.

He has nice numbers playing off Jokic but I have derozan as a much better 2nd option for Jokic given Murray's struggle this year. DFS is also a better defender. Its a pretty sizable upgrade on court imo. MPJs contract is also the worst/most risky of the 3

Why would Kings want to trade DeRozan, they just signed him? He is 3rd option in Sacramento playing of off Sabonis, the closest player to Jokic in the league. Is it because he has not made any team better he played for? Kings just signed him, they should keep him, and Denver will get stacked with MPJ.
This time last year kings with Harrison Barnes were 17-11, 60.7%, 7th in the league.
Now they are 13-17, 43.3%, 20th in the league. And Fox wants out. Why, oh why...
...and DeRozan is better than Nuggets starting PG and SF for championship team. Sometimes it looks like Denver's champions season was 20 years ago, not 2 years ago with basically the same core we have now.

Re: Sacramento - Denver - Brooklyn
I like this for the Nets but the salaries of Huerter and DFS line up without Saric.
I think the Nets would be more amenable to this deal of Saric were taken out and they were only adding about $3 mil to their cap this year instead of $8 mil.
It would probably make more sense if Denver kept him or gave him to Sacrimento.
If the Nets plan to go big game hunting in free agency this Summer they might turn it down but I like it.

The last thing the Nugs need is a midrange shooter who stops the ball movement and isn’t good on defense. They would be much worse with DeRozen.

If the deal between the Nets and Nuggets makes sense with MPJ going to a third team and a first going out to the Nets do you have any ideas about which player the Nuggets would want if the third team were getting MPG and DFS instead of Sacrimento for him?

No from Brooklyn. We would rather have pure expirings and a 1st for DFS. Huerter and Saric would negatively impact our capspace next summer.
Some people really have a way with words. Other people... not... have... way.

Makes sense for Denver. Makes sense for Brooklyn. Don't love it for the Kings. Porter Jr is just kinda a more expensive, slightly more consistent version of the guy they already have.

This feels like it has a lot of potential to be a slightly better but similar version of KAT for Randle for Denver. I’m not sure I’d do it. Looks good on paper but losing MPJ’s length, downgrading defensively, and losing his spacing/off ball play for someone who needs the ball more and is more iso heavy seems like a dicey risk.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

I like DeRozan more than most but...
Gordon, Westbrook, DeRozan, Braun, Watson. That's just too many non-shooters for one team to work in 2024. Denver desperately needs MPJ's range. If they were to trade him, they'd have to get a comparable shooter back.

I don’t have any specific players in mind. But the Nugs need as many big long 3&D type players as possible. And they need an adequate floor general and center for when Joker is off the floor.

Re: Sacramento - Denver - Brooklyn
Don't like it for Denver. MPJ provides shooting and while he's not a good perimeter defender, he's at least big enough to not get bullied. And he can slide to the 4 when the Nuggets play Gordon at back-up Center. DeRozan is a ball-dominant non-shooter who is worse on defense. I think this trade makes Denver much worse. (But I like the fit of DFS in Denver -- just not at this price and with the addition of DD).
Seems great for BKN -- too great -- they're stealing value. A likely-expiring DFS doesn't get you more than 2-3 2nds + expiring. Denver's (unprotected? lightly protected?) '31 pick is way too much for DFS + eating a $5m salary next year in Saric.
I like it for Sacramento. Will probably improve their defense a bit through sheer size and should open a few more Keon Ellis minutes. DeRozan never made much sense there imo, and the results seem to bear that out.
