Pistons/Jazz offseason

Post#1 » by Astaluego » Wed Dec 25, 2024 10:01 am

PISTONS
In: L.Markkanen/W.Kessler/Svi
Out:R.Holland/J.Duren/THJ/Fontecchio/FRP Future(27)top 5 prot

Kessler/I.Stewart
Markkanen/T.Harris
A.Thompson/Svi
Ivey/Beasley
Cade/Sasser

With Cade playing at an Allstar level and Ivey improving, the Pistons buy...
Kessler is here to anchor the defense, while Markkanen gives them an all-star level spacer in the forward spot...
3 key players in the offense, with different and complementary virtues (Lauri/Ivey/Cade) and 2 DPOY candidate players completing the quintet and good depth on the bench with veterans like Harris/Beasley and solid role players like Stewart/Sasser

JAZZ
In:THJ(Cut?)/Fontecchio/Duren/Holland/Future FRP
Out:Lauri/Kessler/Svi

very far from competing and looking for a top selection this year, they sell and obtain 2 high potential prospects + another future selection

There's a reason you haven't seen any Lauri trade ideas lately.... he's ineligible to be traded before the trade deadline due to signing his extension past a certain date in the offseason.

Maybe retitle your trade idea, "Pistons/Jazz Offseason."

Seems like a massive undervaluation of Lauri to me, not to mention Kessler…maybe I’m undervaluing Holland & Duren, but I’m seeing marginal young players and one pick coming from DET for a star and an upgrade at C. This could be two frps short of Ainge listening, imo

Kessler>Duren…even though Duren looks like a Greek God, he’s not much of a defender.

Yeah I tend to think Kessler and Duren are similar.

And I’m not crazy high on Holland.

If I’m the Jazz I’d want Ivey maybe instead? Not sure what I think Lauri’s actual value is on that extension, though.

A quick no from the Jazz.

Fair take. I think Lauri is by far the best player in the deal.

As for Duren, I'm far from thinking he is plateaued at just past his 21st birthday, although the lack of shooting and wingspan could well mean that he ends up as a career backup. Then again, even though Kessler is better, I wouldn't give much for the Pistons to upgrade at the C position given the current situation of the team.

Also, we would be nuts to trade away FRPs at this point in our team's development -- let's identify a core and make the playoffs first

Lauri is having a bad season, it'll depend how he looks bybthe end offseason, I don't think the Jazz trade him at these valuations

This is probably Lauri's value since he's been bad, but the Jazz would never trade him at this value as Ainge would instantly be fired for having not traded him at the 2024 deadline.

Lauri probably gets traded in like three years after Ainge gets fired or the Jazz finally get a star prospect.

I'd do this as a Pistons fan, but also think Lauri has more value than this. Jalen Duren has been underwhelming this season and a lot us feel he doesn't quite have the same potential as he once did. Ron Holland is a dawg and could become really good but it's quite dependent on his outside shooting, and if that doesn't come along he may never amount to more than an energy bench player. THJ and Fontecchio are basically filler.

Currently the earliest first rounder we can trade is 2029 due to the protections on the traded pick, but if we surprise everyone and make the playoffs this season then our 2025 pick conveys and we can start trading earlier first rounders.

I wouldn't want to swap Kessler for Duren and I don't see the value for Lauri here. I'd rather just keep Lauri, or trade him for multiple picks.

Jazz can do better if they move Lauri.

As a piston fan, I sure hope they don't trade for a Lauri. To me, he's probably the most overrated player in the league still. Ainge blew it for not trading him to the highest bidder last year. He's a one dimensional jump shooting big that doesn't play much defense and misses a lot of games. That's like your 3rd or 4th starter, not your star.

This is an easy pass by Utah. Outside of Cade there isn’t anyone on Detroit I would be interested in trading Kessler or Lauri for.
