J Sochan for J Kuminga - Spurs / Warriors Trade

Post#1 » by BrianInPhilly » Thu Dec 26, 2024 3:37 am

Thought of this trade recently & I think it would make sense for both teams. Even if Spurs need to add a little value, pick or 2 maybe.

My thinking is - each is a better fit for the other team. Sochan can be mentored by Draymond and he's more of a facilitator too, so better with Curry. A 4/5 guy.

Spurs would benefit from having a more versatile driver/slasher like Kuminga to play next to Wemby in my opinion. With Wemby's shooting/spacing, Kuminga should thrive next to him at the 4'.

Thoughts?

I like Sochan a hell of a lot better than I do Kuminga, he's a much better defender and I can see him playing a useful role on a contending team similar to that which Gordon plays on the Nuggets, whereas Kuminga seems like the typical athletic marvel who doesn't quite have it together upstairs and has an inflated opinion of himself. Spurs wouldn't do this. But if Sochan were to be moved I think it'd be because his inability to space the floor becomes too much of a liability for Wemby in the playoffs, and Kuminga wouldn't be the solution to that problem. So no, pass from the Spurs.

PS; Sochan guards PGs better than Cs, I don't see him playing the 5 on defense other than in very specific circumstances.

Sochan looks great and is on a rookie contract. Kuminga is a bad player who wants a max contract. Why would the Spurs do this? Why would any team take Kuminga for anything more than a low cost gamble.

Absolutely not. Sochan >>> Kuminga. Spurs FO loves Sochan and they're not going to trade him plus assets for some malcontent clown like Kuminga
